Synopsis
It’s graduation day at Huntington Hills High-- a time for Pomp and Circumstance, tassels and mortarboards, and serious introspection about the future. But tonight, the seniors will leave all that behind for the things that really matter; romance, revenge and rock ‘n’ roll. Ethan Embry, Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, Seth Green and Jennifer Love Hewitt star in one raucous comedy about the ultimate teen party, a once-in-a-lifetime alternate universe where class nerds become class studs, super-jocks are humiliated, and freshman crushes blossom into grown-up romance. >From prom queen to bimbo, meathead to misfit, everyone will be there for a hormone-charged bash tapped for out-of-control fun.

CAN’T HARDLY WAIT marked the directorial debut of comedy screenwriting duo Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, who went on to write and direct Josie and the Pussycats and who recently co-scripted the hit romantic comedy Made of Honor for Columbia Pictures. The movie was produced by Betty Thomas (Charlie’s Angeles, Guess Who) and Jenno Topping (Catch And Release, Guess Who). In addition to the above cast, look for hysterical cameos from Selma Blair (Hellboy), Jenna Elfman (TV’s “Dharma and Greg”), Donald Faison (TV’s “Scrubs”), Melissa Joan Hart (TV’s “Sabrina, The Teenage Witch”), Jerry O’Connell (Jerry Maguire) and Jaime Pressly (TV’s “My Name is Earl”). CAN’T HARDLY WAIT was distributed by Columbia Pictures and has a run time of approximately 100 minutes. It has been rated PG-13 for teen drinking and sexuality, and for language.

I've always really liked this film (except for its title). The existing DVD is satisfactory, but the directors mention on the commentary that a fair amount of material had to be cut or altered to secure a PG-13 rating. They mention several specific scenes that were affected and I seem to recall that they even speculate that the deleted scenes might be included as supplements on the DVD, but they are not. I've always been disappointed by that, so it's nice to see deleted scenes included on this new release. A director's cut of the film itself, incorporating the excised material, would have been nice to have, too, but I think the film works well enough as it.

Can't say I was expecting this. The movie was entertaining enough, I may upgrade to the BD.
