Denon 3802: left channel dead

My left speaker died and I am diagnosing the problem. I first sent a test tone thru successfully. Tried a different speaker, different speaker cable. Plugged right speaker into left input. Left channel still no good. Plugged left speaker into right inputs: it works. So except for the successful test tone, looks like the left speaker inputs on the receiver is dead. Switched to 'mono movie mode' so I can get sound from both speakers until I fix problem.
Is it most likely a board in the receiver? Dust? It's fairly new unit. Any suggestions?

Re: Denon 3802: left channel dead

Have you tried several different inputs? Both digital and analog. Check them all. Be sure to use more than one source as well. Check the radio.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.

Re: Denon 3802: left channel dead

I agree with John. Especially the part about checking different sources. If the test tones work for that channel, it seems (to me) that the channel works. Just seems like the test tones wouldn't work either, if the channel was shot. But I don't know enough about the tech of electronics, to swear to that.
Good luck!

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by: Have you tried several different inputs? Both digital and analog. Check them all. Be sure to use more than one source as well. Check the radio.

Tried 'what' in different inputs'? Digital and analog modes?
Maybe you could tell me more specifically what to do. (Low blood sugar, brain dead)

Re: Denon 3802: left channel dead

Do you have a cd player hooked up? If so, is the left speaker dead when you play a cd? Have you tried playing the radio built into the receiver? Speaker still dead with radio? Do you have tv hooked up to it? Have you tried another dvd player?

If the dvd player is all you've tried, it may be the dvd player that's messed up, instead of the receiver. That's why we said to check other sources. Does a friend have a dvd player you can try?

If dvd player has both optical and digital coax outputs, and you are using the digital coax, try using the optical instead (or vice versa). Don't forget, moving the dvd player to a different digital audio input will probably cause you to assign the dvd player to the new input. If you're not already using the tv inputs, hookup the dvd player to them, and see if it works right that way.

Like I said before.........if the test tones work with that speaker, it seems the channel is working. You really haven't given us much information to work with. What are the model numbers and brand of your receiver and dvd player? How are they hooked up? What do you have hooked up, other than dvd player? If tv is hooked up, is it basic cable, digital cable, satellite, or regular antenna?
