Largest recommended display?

I have a small townhouse right now, and we're looking at buying a 50" Samsung Plasma screen. Right now, we have a 32" LCD, and it does seem a bit small. I've been looking at wall-mounting a 50".

The problem is we have a very small living room. We sit approximately 10 feet from the TV. Would the 50" be too big for this? My neighbor has a 50" Samsung DLP, and it seems like I can see every little pixel. If I stand down the hallway, it looks great.

The other fear I have is we probably won't be living here for more than another year. Work may be taking me to another area. If that happens, I'm buying a house with a much larger living room, so I don't want to be stuck with a screen that's too small.

AHH!! The agony! The bug has bit me and I don't know what to do! HELP!!!

Re: Largest recommended display?

Ten feet isn't close for a 50". In fact, at that distance, many have argued that you can't even tell the difference between a 1080p and 720p. I just got a 50" Panasonic plasma (720p), and I sit about 11 feet away. I never see any pixels. Maybe the problem is with Samsung.

50" is also good for a larger, room, too. When I get off the couch and move away, it only looks better. I'm still taken aback when I enter the room and catch a glimpse of that gorgeous picture. Of course, I moved up from an old 36" CRT, so this is quite a change.
