re: TCFHE Press Release: Halloween Favorites on "Boo-Ray" (OMEN/NIGHT WATCH/DAY WATCH)

Leave it to Fox to coin the term 'Boo-ray'. Hopefully, that term will not be as applicable to the above releases as it is to 'Patton' and 'The Longest Day'.

Very nice to see more BD exclusive features though it's odd that the isolated score isn't DTS lossless. Did they max out the 50G on this disc I wonder?

Wow. you scared me Ron.
For a second there I was thinking Fox was going to label that on the blu-ray packaging.
But it is funny though.

But now that I think about it Ron,
Someone or some small DVD distributor is going to see this and probally use it
for their horror line.
Better get that "Boo-ray" trademarked

BTW, thedigitalbits has the artwork up for these releases. I'm actually digging the one they used for The Omen:

I don't like the sound of that.

And where's Omen IV? I don't care if it's crap. I've never seen it before, but I'd like to.

I'm right there with you--it was part of the standard DVD set and should be part of this one. It's not a great piece of work by any means, but it has its virtues. I feel cheated by its absence--if it's not offered here, we may never see it on Blu-ray; conversely, if they dropped the 2006 remake that no one ever asked for, I wouldn't shed a tear.

re: TCFHE Press Release: Halloween Favorites on "Boo-Ray" (OMEN/NIGHT WATCH/DAY WATCH)

For the original 2.0 stereo dvd release, and even the 5.1 special edition, has anyone else noticed that the music is NOT in true stereo?? It sounds more like broad mono with no noticible seperation. The menues and documentaries however use the original stereo tracks and sound great.

I hope the Blu-ray release has music in true stereo during the feature. After all isn't that what this oscar winning score deserves??

Sounds like they are just repackaging the current release of Omen 06

Wasn't Omen IV made-for-cable? Perhaps the original source materials aren't blu-ray worthy. It was likely shot on 16mm and edited in the analog video domain.

Yes, it was made for the Fox network. And, as covered in the thread about THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Blu-ray thread, 16mm can look better than SD DVD resolution will allow for. Yes, they'd have to re-edit from scratch it from the original film master, but still...

Well, they could re-edit it up to a point. If special optical effects were done in the video domain, those would end up looking severely low-res compared to the rest of the feature. I've never seen it myself, so I can't say for sure if that would be an issue with this title or not. Considering its lack of popularity, I don't see Fox ponying up big money to digitally re-do all the special effects just to make it blu-ray worthy.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Halloween Favorites on "Boo-Ray" (OMEN/NIGHT WATCH/DAY WATCH)

I'm working on full reviews of the BRs of Night Watch and Day Watch. They both exhibit excellent video and audio, but I wanted to post an early head's up for those familiar with these films from their U.S. theatrical runs.

Both films, which are in Russian, featured innovative and artful English subtitles woven into their visual fabric. The standard DVD of Night Watch had a version which kept those subs, but the DVD of Day Watch did not. Unfortunately, neither of the BR versions has them. They both have player-generated subs.

I'm still recommending the BRs for their otherwise superlative presentation. The lossless audio tracks sound better than what I remember from the theater. But in case the subtitle issue is a dealbreaker for anyone, I wanted to get the word out early.

Yep. It looks just fine, if I recall..

I have "Omen box set" on pre-order. Whatta hell. First two are just great (especially the 1st one, which is a small masterpiece).

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Halloween Favorites on "Boo-Ray" (OMEN/NIGHT WATCH/DAY WATCH)

Oh man!!! That is a total bummer about Night Watch and Day Watch!! I was actually hoping that Fox would ADD the animated subtitles to their Day Watch release.

I've already asked for these titles for my Birthday (next week). If I don't get them I'm crossing them off the list and going for that Omen box set instead (anyone want the crappy remake?).

Universal, please release Streets of Fire on Blu-ray.

TCFHE Releases OMEN ('76)

I'm SUPER happy too hear this cause I'm tried of picking up the BD "Omen".
Only too find its not w/Gregory Peck & Lee Remick; especially Lee Remick!
There was a time (B4 this movie) where she was my favorite screen starlet.

Movies are: "The Greatest Artform".
HD should be for EVERYONE!
