Decoder to play DVD?

I'm not too steeped in tech stuff, so I need some help.

My laptop I use at work had to be re-imaged due to some problems.

Now the re-imaged laptop cannot play DVD movies. I downloaded and ran the Microsoft XP video decoder checkup utility and there is none. The IT is a headache to deal with so I don't want to go back to them.

I Googled for DVD decoder and am confused. What free DVD decoder can I use that will work with MS Media Player 11?

System: Windows XP.
The laptop has a combo CD Writer/DVD reader only.

Thanks.

Geeze, never thought to check the manufacture's web support.

Thanks Patrick!
