Weeds season 4

Weeds is back for its 4th season. The family has moved towards Judah's family. Celia is left holding the bag. Nancy is moving on with her drug operation in the new locale for the time being. Can't say the season opener was much more than average, but it was a decent transitional episode to kick-start the show in a different spot.

Re: Weeds season 4

This show keeps going places I don't really want it to, but the addition of Albert Brooks I love, and the way they all turned on Celia was great. I'm at least enjoying the opening for this season on its own, instead of feeling like it's a chore waiting for things to get back to "normal" for the first few episodes.

BTW, this episode features the last time we'll hear the song "Little Boxes" as they are revamping the title credits and changing up the music. We'll find out next week how the new opening goes.

Re: Weeds season 4

I have'nt finished my Blu ray of S3 yet, but I'm wondering how they can continue with this series, especailly if it moves from Agrestic. After all Nancy's been thru and have escaped from, you'd think she's take a legit job especially as it's shown she can apply her dealer "talents" in a real job arena. I kinda felt sorry for her predicaments but that's getting less and less. Interesting to see where this series heads.

Re: Weeds season 4

She doesn't want a legit job. When the series started, we were presented with basically a housewife who started selling pot out of desperation when her husband died leaving her with no money and mounting debts. At this point, she's a drug dealer, not matter how cute or well spoken she is. For me, that's been the point of the last season or two. She's put her family at risk because she loves the buzz, money, and probably freedom associated with what she's doing. Leaving that and going somewhere to take orders for a lot less money isn't where she's been. She may have been a housewife, but there's always been a little more in her beneath the surface, which is why she succeeded at being a dealer in the first place. Of course she could decide to change for the sake of her family, but it's just as likely she won't.

Re: Weeds season 4

I'm just hoping that the show returns to be as funny as it was the first two seasons. "Weeds" is starting to remind me of "MASH": the first brace of seasons were straightforward comedy with elements of drama, and "evolved" into a drama with elements of comedy for the last seasons (but you already knew that).

I thought the third season was a bummer for the most part, and it looks like we might be in for more of the same this time around. I wish Zooey Deschanel stuck around. Her character was hilarious.

Love Albert Brooks ("I'm just not sure you're mine...").

I think the writers have an opportunity to revive this show - I hope they do.

As for MASH, any episode with Wayne Rogers rates among the best TV ever. After Wayne Rogers (and McLean Stevenson) left, it was a rapid downhill slide.

Re: Weeds season 4

I'm not entirely sure about where this is going, but its not horrible. Though do they really need to so constantly throw threats at her? Some of the funniest parts of the show were when things were going perfectly fine.

Exactly! Andy's relationship with the ridiculously hot Israeli girl and "dalliance" in the porn industry, Zooey Deschanel as the out-of-control ex-girlfriend, medical marijuana "boutiques," Silas' deaf girlfriend (I REALLY miss her the most); these were some of the reasons I found the first two seasons to be arresting televison.

I didn't dig Nancy's involvement with the "gangsta" drug-dealer that encompassed the first half of last season at all, and the "tone" of the show changed. I don't care how "unlikeable" Celia may be, I think she's a great character (she looks hot sometimes, too), and it's disheartening to see her reduced to being someone's "prison bitch."

Re: Weeds season 4

Another thoroughly average episode, as far as I'm concerned. I don't know if there's been any laugh-out-loud moments really in the new season, seems they're changing it from mostly comedy with a little bit of drama to mostly drama with a little bit of comedy and I don't think its working entirely.

Re: Weeds season 4

Other than Albert Brooks I have not been impressed with the 4th season at all.
The running to the border plotline has gotten old already and the Celia Prison storyline was uneventful.
Plus Nancy getting a pillow to kill Grandma? Really mean spirited.

Re: Weeds season 4

So far I am not thrilled with this season. Nancy was way more naive than she should have been on her border crossing "test" - after all she's been though she should be a little more savvy. Celia knows where Nancy's living, it should be no problem to alert the DEA and let them stake out the place, but I'm sure they'll come up with some contrived way out of it.

Albert Brooks is a great addition to the cast, though.

I keep watching, hoping it'll get better again, and it pretty much stays exactly the same, completely mediocre.

Looks like Albert Brooks is off the show for now. I'm also feeling nothing more than tepidness towards this season so far.

I liked this episode. The "shiva" bit was very funny, and the only time I laughed out loud this season so far...

Kinda figured Albert Brooks wouldn't be on for long, being a "special guest star".

Anyhow, decent reboot, finally.

I'll watch last weeks and this weeks tonight, I would'nt say it was garbage but it was alot weaker than previous seasons, and it was only redeemed by Albert Brooks and some Kevin Nealon's bits.

I hope they just let Kevin Nealon stay in the house. Then we'd have all the funniest people there and it looks like they're finally in a place where they could introduce in a little more "normal."

I agree, I can chalk up the first few to some transitional pains in moving to a new setting. I like how they fit in the existing characters moving to the new setting without making it seem cheesey. I can see major problems with Doug and Ira becominging Mules, and the Mexican tunnel plot.

Re: Weeds season 4

Ooookay, i'm going to have to do some serious thinking about whether or not I continue watching this show.

Shane masturbating to his mom's pictures was wrong on levels that I can't even concieve of right now.

I always knew that Shane was a sick kid who should have been shipped off to the puzzle factory long ago but I am cutting him no slack here, even if I did this incident is going to make the show painfully uncomfortable to watch when he and his mom share scenes together.

Too much and too far IMO.

Re: Weeds season 4

First, I haven't seen any episode this season yet but I've been watching the comments. That said... Why? Because no boy has ever done or thought like that? Yours is the first comment that's made me want to stop recording and start watching this season. Why? Because there's enough watered down reality on network TV. What set premium cable aside in shows like The Sopranos and Dead Like Me is they didn't water it down and make everyone so... acceptable.

Taboos. Tough stuff to deal with. Society has several methods. There's the old standby -- ignoring. There's the ever faithful, "I hope you burn in hell you sick pervert." Then there's the less used, but infinitely more productive, "Those thoughts can happen, but here's why you shouldn't nurture those thoughts." I'm not a believer that shame is the best method to address undesirable behavior or thoughts. I'm a believer that what shame does it cause people to bury or hide their tendencies, not deal with them, and sometimes that comes out in even worse (but ironically, more acceptable) ways.

We can watch Dexter torture and mutilate people while murdering them, as well as shows showing other horrible things, but we can't watch a boy fantasize about his mother? To me it just took a slight turn through a dark neighborhood of the human condition and I'm curious to see what comes of it (it's essentially a comedy, so I'm sure he'll have some shame and get over it at some point). No harm, no foul.

Re: Weeds season 4

To be perfectly honest, and I hope people can respect this, I never liked Shane, i've always thought he was a nutcase and I find his erratic behaviour irritating, he crossed a boundry with me in this weeks ep, I didn't care for it and it was just the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Please don't debate me on it, it's just how I feel, that's all.

I've put up with everything else in this show including the episode where Andrew took Shane to a whorehouse and gave him probably one of the funniest explanations on how to masturbate that i've ever heard. However Shane's actions in the final moments of this weeks episode were sick and tasteless and i'm not putting up with him anymore.

Besides, since leaving Aggrestic the shows new locale hasn't been doing it for me and I hate that there's no Conrad also. In short, i've been looking for a reason to dump this show and I think this weeks ep fits the bill nicely.

The move from Aggrestic was a welcome and necessary change.

Shane is weird and annoying, but I think he's interesting and generally is tangential to the storyline.

To each his own.

Re: Weeds season 4

So anyway, is tonight the season finale, or will there just be a break and more episodes at a later date? The show's website, TV.com, and TheTVDB.com all show only 8 episodes.

Maybe they just haven't been updated yet for more? I don't know, that just seems really short for a half hour show.

Re: Weeds season 4

I believe there's 13 episodes this season...

Six worlds prayed to her, they built her temples, conquered planets, and yet one day she still rode off and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying he said "We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?" and she looked down upon him and she whispered, "Because I can".
