attention Aussies: THE SAINT in Australia ?

I understand that Umbrella Entertainment has released all 71 monochrome episodes of the original THE SAINT in Australia.

Has anyone seen this collection?
Can you comment on the quality?
Can you provide a link to where it may be bought?

Many thanks.

Re: attention Aussies: THE SAINT in Australia ?

Hello,

I'm not sure if this helps but I have the complete B/W Saint Set that I purchased from the Network UK site. It's just a guess but the Au set may be from the same masters as the Network set. If so, the Network set transfers are pristine, grade "A" video quality. They look as good as any of the recent releases of B/W sets such as the Untouchables, Fugitive, etc, and play back great on my region-free Std DVD player.

"Checkmate King Two Out"   Jeff Willis  "Combat! A Selmur Production"

I'm a 50's - mid-90's TV/DVD Collector. One DVD show since '96: Firefly

The Fugitive/See Hollywood & Die: [Miles] "What, you think I'm crazy?!" [Kimble] "Next question."

Re: attention Aussies: THE SAINT in Australia ?

Thanks, Jeff. Encouraging to hear a good review of the transfers. The original THE SAINT pre-1966 was a remarkable program, in its own way as important to the 1960s as the original Bond films and the Beatles. It's time I bought the complete series. If the Australian set is sourced from the same transfers -- and I'll bet it is -- it should look and sound spectacular. The advantage of buying Australian is that it will be about half the price of the U.K. set, perhaps $75 instead of $150. I used to have a couple of Australian sites bookmarked but they were lost in a PC crash. So, if anyone here knows Australian sites please post the links.

Re: attention Aussies: THE SAINT in Australia ?

The main one that I use is EzyDVD - Australia's largest DVD store
Although they don't necessarily have the lowest price, their Cust Svc Dept is good. I always receive replies to inquiries about releases and the shipping time to the states is good.

I bought the "Man In a Suitcase" complete set here Music Games DVDs at JB HIFI Australia

The site was recommended to me by one of the best posters on this Bd (Bob H).

I'm almost certain that, as you said, the transfers are identical to the UK set. Such is usually the case between the R2 & R4 region releases. I have a couple R4 releases of other shows and verified before buying the R4's that they were mfg'ed from the same transfers as the R2 releases.

Re: attention Aussies: THE SAINT in Australia ?

Jeff, I found what I was looking for on the links you provided. Many thanks.

Thanks also for introducing me to Man In a Suitcase. I've done some reading about the program and I decided to buy it. Problem is, I'm told that the interview with Richard Bradford on the Network set is different from the interview on the Umbrella set. So which interview do I want. Or do I want both. When I resolve this question I will Buy It Now.
