Re: Tim Russert died

Ok, I'm putting on my flame retardant suit because I know I'm going to be catching some flames. I was never a big Tim Russert fan and it seems like the media is covering his passing as if it was the Pope who died. For the past number of days it seems like everytime I turned on the tv there was more coverage about Tim Russert,God love him ,but geez.... Ok,climbing down off of my soap box and going to the corner.

Re: Tim Russert died

CNN just ran a bit of Bruce Springsteen's tribute (live via satellite) at the Kennedy Center. He did Thunder Road, which he has been dedicating to Russert in concert. The song was done solo acoustic, and had to be from Europe, where Bruce and the band are performing.

Very cool that CNN cut away from the blowhard Bill Bennett to cover this.

I don't have time enough to watch all these DVDs!

You're not alone. I've always enjoyed MTP, but I've run across people that looked down on the show and the host as an example of "gotcha" journalism. I never really felt that way about the way Russert would throw back old quotes at politicians. If there was an inconsistency or misunderstanding, I always just expected the politicians to explain.

I generally don't like to bemoan the loss of people I don't even know, and who certainly don't know me, but I have to say... I really do feel a loss over Mr. Russert's death. I pretty much trusted him to ask good questions, and I enjoyed the back and forth exchanges he had with those who appeared on MTP.

Whether you were a fan of Russert or not doesn't really matter. Obviously, he was thought of as a giant in the industry which is why you're seeing this much coverage and how politicians across party lines are reacting to his passing. Evidently, he was more powerful than some of us ever recognized.

It gives me a headache to think that Chris Matthews is one of the people being discussed for his chair on MTP. The fact that I can't think of anyone to replace him is a credit to his impact.
