| Some of you may remember that little Writers’ Strike dealie we had some months back. And you may recall that as a result, we had our episode order increased from 13 to 21 to amortize the costs associated with delaying our production. Basically, we only had time to complete eight episodes if we wanted to premiere Season Three in our normal July timeslot before we would run out of scripts. We are now at that critical juncture. Then production will go on a hiatus for six weeks while the writers scramble to complete another five episodes before we resume production. It’s a nice problem to have, but exhausting. |

I hope, though, that something happens this season to reverse the mind wipe that Henry did on him. Right now he seems to have made peace with the fact that Allison's engaged. Imagine the plotline if something happened to Carter to 'remember' the alternate timeline and realize that he could have been fighting for her (and their unborn child), but let her go because Henry erased his memory.

| Which brings me to the other topic for discussion: product integration. Here’s the deal, gang: corporate tie-ins are the way of the new world. We’ve done product placement deals in seasons past, but this is a whole new ballgame. We don’t just have to show the product. Now we have to actually integrate these things into our stories. Well, one story anyway. Which I’ve just finished writing with Eric Wallace, and is now shooting. I bring this up now, because there will undoubtedly be a contingent of fans who think we’ve completely sold out. Honestly, I understand that sentiment. But given the changing ways we all watch television, with Tivo and DVR, web downloads and DVDs, the people who pay to make our show have to find a way to turn a profit. Thus, we are being sponsored by Degree Men Absolute Protection. Anti-perspirant, you say? How does that work it’s way into Eureka? Because it’s over-engineered. Very high-tech. And ultimately, in the episode we’re shooting, it has to save the day. Truthfully, I’m a little proud about the concept we came up with. If you removed any reference to Degree, it would still feel like an episode of our show. But I ask that when you watch the episode, you try to remember that the reason we’re doing this particular story, incorporating our generous sponsor, is that without their participation, you wouldn’t be getting nearly as much Eureka this season. It’s a cold, hard fact. So please, when you watch the episode, try to enjoy it in the spirit in which it was intended. A little tongue-in-cheek, with a wink to our audience. And with our gratitude to the sponsors who helped us make the show bigger and better overall because of their support. Commence poking fun. We can take it. |
