Eureka Season 3

As mentioned in the Season 2 thread, Season 3 starts on July 29. I just found out that the writers of Eureka have a behind the scenes blog at EUREKA unscripted which has photos from the first episode, a clip from the table read of the first episode and more.

Along with Hero's this is the show I can't wait for the new season to start. It has been way too long of a wait for this show to come out with a new season.

Re: Eureka Season 3

I remember watching a few episodes during Season 1 and then I watched the marathon of Season 2 that was on SciFi channel a month or so ago. It was right after Comcast started showing SciFi in HD. I am caught up so I am now ready for Season 3.

Re: Eureka Season 3

By the way, one very exciting thing from the May 20 entry of EUREKA unscripted
is that Season 3 is 21 episodes! While the first two seasons were 13 hours each, we get at least 21 hours this time around. It is anyone's guess how SciFi will schedule them, but that looks exciting.

Re: Eureka Season 3

I hope they don't show us 3 or 4 episodes in a row then wait a couple of weeks and then start up again. They do that with some shows on Bravo and it drives me nuts.

My guess is that they'll have a run of 8-13 episodes and then a break of a number of weeks and then show the rest.

Re: Eureka Season 3

SciFi is Universal, right? If so I'd have to agree, because thats what USA seems to do with most of its shows, puts on half in the summer and then the other half in January. (Monk and Psych, for example.)

Re: Eureka Season 3

Can't wait for season 3 to start! Along with "The 4400", Eureka has been a mainstay for me the past couple of summers. With "The 4400"'s cancellation, it's been a slow summer on TV.

A few items of interest from EUREKA unscripted
Quote:
Some of you may remember that little Writers’ Strike dealie we had some months back. And you may recall that as a result, we had our episode order increased from 13 to 21 to amortize the costs associated with delaying our production.

Basically, we only had time to complete eight episodes if we wanted to premiere Season Three in our normal July timeslot before we would run out of scripts. We are now at that critical juncture. Then production will go on a hiatus for six weeks while the writers scramble to complete another five episodes before we resume production. It’s a nice problem to have, but exhausting.
They also explain about being sponsored by Degree Men Absolute Protection and

Look for the Writers’ Podcast for Episode 301 “Bad to the Drone” to be posted on SCIFI.COM soon after the episode premieres on Tuesday, July 29th. ... NEW WRITERS’ PODCAST COMMENTARIES will follow each week for the remaining seven new Eureka Season Three episodes.

Re: Eureka Season 3

Over at EUREKA unscripted they tell us what happened at the San Diego Comic Con Eureka panel (including how the season opens up) and have a picture from the screening of the S3 opening episode. There is a photo of the Eureka Icecream truck they had there. They also remind us that there are S2 marathons today and tomorrow.

Re: Eureka Season 3

We had a thunderstorm in our area about the time the show started and I was afraid it would knock out our electricity. Thankfully, only a flicker, so I was able to watch the entire episode. I thought it was a pretty good episode. So Francis Fisher is going to be the designated "bad guy" this season.

I hope Henry gets out of jail. With the shaved head I am a bit worried he might turn out to be the big bad this season. I am still not sure if he has forgiven Carter for interfering with him saving Henry's girlfriend.

I'm sure he hasn't - logically he knows that Carter had to, but emotionally, he's still upset about Kim being gone. I hope, though, that something happens this season to reverse the mind wipe that Henry did on him. Right now he seems to have made peace with the fact that Allison's engaged. Imagine the plotline if something happened to Carter to 'remember' the alternate timeline and realize that he could have been fighting for her (and their unborn child), but let her go because Henry erased his memory.

Re: Eureka Season 3

I enjoyed the first episode. I don't know whether The Fixer really is going to be "the big bad" or not. She might just be some mechanism for shaking things up. We'll have to see how it all develops.

Over at EUREKA unscripted they have more photos from San Diego and they wrote

I wrote a few questions earlier today and they wrote back answers within a few hours. Here are some of my questions (with numbers corresponding to their responses in spoiler tags):
Quote:
1) By the way, has Matt Frewer's Jim Taggart been completely written out
of the series now? I was disappointed when he started to disappear
and a new love interest for Jo popped up.

2) Is Callie going to return to the show? 3) Now that Allison and Stark
look to be merging again, Jack needs to move on.
and here are their answers:
Quote:
1.
Warning Spoiler! Click to show
Taggart has NOT been written out of the series. Sadly, he's not in our first 8 episodes, but Taggart WILL RETURN for Season Four in 2009.
2.
Warning Spoiler! Click to show
Callie is not back this season, but may return in 2009.
3.
Warning Spoiler! Click to show
Are you so sure that things are over between Carter and Allison...?! (hint, hint).

Re: Eureka Season 3

I realize that the sponsors within the show had to be real-world companies who actually sponsored the show, but wouldn't you think they'd be able to come up with something better than a deodorant company?

Well, there was the book in Henry's office that Jack borrowed shortly after his memory was erased just because Allison had the same one.

This may be the prettiest looking show in HD I've seen in a while; the look to this show is so crisp; even compared to most other HD shows, this really takes advantage of it.

Here is what they said about it on EUREKA unscripted on July 22
Quote:
Which brings me to the other topic for discussion: product integration.

Here’s the deal, gang: corporate tie-ins are the way of the new world. We’ve done product placement deals in seasons past, but this is a whole new ballgame. We don’t just have to show the product. Now we have to actually integrate these things into our stories. Well, one story anyway. Which I’ve just finished writing with Eric Wallace, and is now shooting.

I bring this up now, because there will undoubtedly be a contingent of fans who think we’ve completely sold out. Honestly, I understand that sentiment. But given the changing ways we all watch television, with Tivo and DVR, web downloads and DVDs, the people who pay to make our show have to find a way to turn a profit.

Thus, we are being sponsored by Degree Men Absolute Protection.

Anti-perspirant, you say? How does that work it’s way into Eureka? Because it’s over-engineered. Very high-tech. And ultimately, in the episode we’re shooting, it has to save the day. Truthfully, I’m a little proud about the concept we came up with. If you removed any reference to Degree, it would still feel like an episode of our show. But I ask that when you watch the episode, you try to remember that the reason we’re doing this particular story, incorporating our generous sponsor, is that without their participation, you wouldn’t be getting nearly as much Eureka this season.

It’s a cold, hard fact.

So please, when you watch the episode, try to enjoy it in the spirit in which it was intended. A little tongue-in-cheek, with a wink to our audience. And with our gratitude to the sponsors who helped us make the show bigger and better overall because of their support.

Commence poking fun. We can take it.

That's one way of putting it. Another view would be that there would be nothing to put on DVD without it.

I for one am grateful for it, considering all the other USA/Sci-Fi shows have been getting the ax lately.

Re: Eureka Season 3

Well, I'll see what I think when the episode comes on, but as of right now, it just doesn't seem to fit into the world of Eureka. I mean, I could see many technical-type companies fitting in well, but not really deodorant.

I do realize that they need to pay the bills somehow, and I'd imagine their budget has to be a little higher for the special effects and maybe a few of the actors are relatively known... okay just one, but he's probably gone half the season anyway.

I guess its sorta understandable, but we'll see when the episode comes on, like I said.

Re: Eureka Season 3

The podcast for the episode came out last night. I listened to it and have written some notes. A lot of the material discussed is also written by the writers over at EUREKA unscripted

A lot of it could be thought of as minor spoilers for the next 8 episodes. I'll try to avoid writing about those. They mention that one line, "the Narnia of food storage" turned into a lot of work. The barn in the episode is the same barn featured in an episode of Traveler which one of the writers also worked on - he thought that was quite a coincidence. Some of Martha's IDs of folks is quite humorous and deserves some freeze framing. Seeing the Degree being brought in was one of the requirements of their deal. From the deal they got the money for a whole new set and some visual effects enhancement money. There is a lot of discussion about Thorne (The Fixer) and how she is the mythology element in this season.

Re: Eureka Season 3

I have to say I was taken aback by the Degree tie-in but I should have seen it coming. It's like the T-Mobile ring tone that happens in every episode of the Closer. I'll just have to get used to it.

I'm loving the show this season but I am feeling uneasy. I am worried that by season 5*, Henry will turn into Lex Luthor.

And how about the actual Degree advertisement featuring Zane? That was an interesting way of making the Eureka world and our world blend together.

I hope they don't go that route with Henry. I was glad to see him pardoned. As they say over at EUREKA unscripted
Quote:
do you really think it’s a coincidence that Eva Throne had Henry pardoned? That she did it simply to “restore Eureka’s balance” or out of the goodness of her heart?

If so, we have some real estate you’d be interested in…
It will be quite interesting to see what she has in mind. Apparently all the various changes she had Jo do were just a smokescreen for her to get that footage out of the museum. What does it mean?
