Troubleshooting!

OK, here's the problem I've got here.

I have an Olevia LCD TV, a cable box from Cox Cable, an X-Box 360, a Wii, and a tivo. My television only has one set of component and composite inputs. I've devoted the composite inputs to the tivo, but in order to get my devices running with minimal hassle, I put in a component switcher.

This device worked great for almost an entire year, and then suddently I began getting faint pink lines running from the bottom to the top of my screen whenever using a component device. When I plugged something DIRECTLY into the television, skipping the switcher, this would not occur.

I concluded my switcher was the problem (reasonable enough, no?) and purchased another one. Same issue is now occurring.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very appreciative! It's a real pain switching devices the old-fashioned way!

Re: Troubleshooting!

The inexpensive switchers are not very good, and what you describe is the kind of problem you'd typically see. You didn't mention what switcher you do have, but high end models are available.

My preference would be to get a receiver with sufficient inputs. This is obviously more expensive than just getting a switch; but you'd have great sound thrown in "for free". Since you aren't using an HDMI input you could even pick up a used one very inexpensively. (A fair amount of people are upgrading to HDMI and dumping their non-HDMI, but perfectly fine, models.)

Re: Troubleshooting!

That does make sense. It perplexes me though, since the first switcher (same model) worked so well for so long...

Either way, I think I should probably go with another switcher. While the thought of a receiver certainly intrigues me, I have to go with the realities of my budget, and further, I should have mentioned that I use a Sony VAIO w/HDMI to watch the occasional blu-ray, so I'd feel obligated to get a receiver with HDMI in/out- thus upping the price substantially.

Does anyone have any recommendations for solid component switchers?
