Re: Bewitched Season 7

I have to say that I don't agree with the reviewer (Pavan? can't remember) who said Elizabeth looked and acted bored this season. I loved her performances this season. I think she seemed very in the moment with all her costars in her scenes. (Although, I think in a few eps you do get a real sense of her disappointment in the scripts.)

I especially enjoyed her performance in "Mary, the Good Fairy." Also "Samantha and the Antique Doll." LOVE that tag scene!

I believe you're right. As a matter of fact, Mrs Montgomery seemed bored on season 8.

Speaking of noticing definition and such, I did notice that one of Samantha's dresses in the Bedwarmer episodes actually has moons and stars on it. I've never been able to make out what it was from just the on air showings. And there's another dress, I think it's "Paul Revere Rides Again" where there are tiger faces all throughout the dress.

Thanks for your post. "savoring" the eps.... Well, that has to do more with the fact that I'm watching sports nightly (NHL season now) on DirecTV and no DVD's but that has an advantage since I won't run out of DVD's to watch until 2012 or so Also from reading the Bd, I'm in the minority on my TV/DVD watching routine. I don't recall ever "marathoning" a TV/DVD set. The most I've done is watch 3 eps on the same evening on a 1-hr show set, and that's rare. I usually watch a 1-hr show at mealtime followed by a sitcom "chaser". Works good for me.

Along with Bewitched, that "Donna Reed" show is making it hard for me...remember that potato chip commercial? "Betcha can't watch just one"

Regarding upgrading your TV, you might want to check out your local Circuit City if there's one located near you. The liquidation sale has some great bargains. I'm sad to see them go under in this economy as I purchased most of my big-tkt items there. I liked the Cust Svc and salespeople's knowledge a little better than BB but that was only in the store nearest to me. I'd guess that some others here prefer BB for the larger-tkt items.

If you or some others here make the "flat-panel HD TV" decision, you'll be blown away by what you'll see with TV/DVD viewing, including the older shows. My #1 word of advice to all is "Don't buy too small" regarding screen size since I'd guess that a lot of us here are 4:3 DVD viewers. Buying too small is the one, if not #1, reason for consumers returning their WS sets for another model. I decided on the 50" Plasma set with my viewing distance at 9-10 ft. My "thumb-rule" is to get a min 46" size WS set as that will give you the same picture height as a 36" 4:3 CRT TV. I have the 46" Plasma set in the bedroom with a closer viewing distance.

Bewitched happens to be one of the 'est of my older TV/DVD shows to watch on my Plasma set. Every episode is amazing me to see the details in that "Stevens" home set that I never saw in all the years of airings on that CRT TV.

Still waiting to get to that 1st "Dr Bombay" episode. Classic addition to the series "Calling Dr Bombay, calling Dr Bombay....emergency, emergency....come right away"

Re: Bewitched Season 7

I think Season 7 was done great, however, I did notice in the first part of Mary the Good Fairy some of the picture was a bit fuzzy. Other than that I think they all were great. I am very happy with this season. I think this is the best season out of the DS years. One thing I noticed, and I wonder if you guys notice this too, is that I believe Liz loved playing Serena. It seems since Season 5 Serena has been in more episodes and I think Liz got tired of playing the good nature of Samantha and this was quite fun to play someone totally opposite. I am going to miss not seeing the Kravitz's next season along with Uncle Arthur and the elder Stephens. But, I do like a lot of the episodes in Season 8 especially the Europe trips. Let's hope Sony includes Adam on the DVD's in Season 8 or on the front cover. One episode I like from the last season is the one where they check to see if Adam is a warlock. One thing that does scare me is that Sony hasn't released any All in the Family for years so I hope they don't do that with the last season of Bewitched put us on hold!

For Christmas, I got a 32" LCD to replace my still working for malfunctioning 27" CRT. Of course, I would love bigger but the size increase for 16:9 material was awesome. For 4:3 material, I have the equivalent of a 25" screen. So, while I gained a heck of a lot for 16:9, it came at a minor sacrifice of 2" for 4:3. I haven't figured on the equivalent size I have in 16:9 were it on a 4:3 set.

Mike, I agree about missing the elder Stephenses. But I thought it was great that their last episode returned the original Frank to the series, and the very last shot of them we ever see is them embracing. Very sweet.

Not missing the Kravitzes so much, as I just don't like Sandra Gould's performances as Gladys. Never warmed up to her in that role.

Jeff, don't be disappointed that they don't use the "Calling Dr. Dombay..." in his first few appearances. And I agree, isn't it amazing to see the house on a large hi-def screen? And my blu-ray player does a BRILLIANT upscaling job. I thought my standard def Toshiba upscaling player gave me near hi-def results, but I was wrong. The blu-ray upscaling is superb not just in detail but in color reproduction as well.

And I also agree that many of the screen grabs in the packaging are pretty bad. How hard is it to get good pics? (And from the proper season! The pic of Endora on the front cover is from the 3rd season ep, "It's Wishcraft.")

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Michael,

I know what you're saying on the pricing. When I got the 50" Plasma lat Aug, that was my 1st WS HD TV buy. Flat-pnl set prices were beginning to drop last summer and since then the economy has made them fall further. If anyone can fit it into their budget, it would be a great time to enter the WS TV market. What I've found is that my Plasma set gives me the best of both worlds since my movie DVD's (the anamorphic ones) have allowed me to view movies that I know very well but have never seen them presented as close to what they were made to look like, a true home theater experience. As mentioned earlier, what that Plasma does for TV/DVD's....awesome.

All this thinking about BW....it's time to pull S3 off the shelf and watch an episode

Hey guys does BW come out on Blue Ray Discs? And another question I know this may sound silly, but can you play regular DVD's in a blu ray player? I am doing an upgrade with TV and bluray disc player. I bet the Stephenses house looks amazing with the high tech imaging... If anyone can post a pic of that feel free ... All the new technology is just amazing.

Mike, there has been no info about BW coming to Blu-ray. Aside from the original Star Trek it seems only new series are finding their way to Blu-ray.

And yes, you can play standard DVDs in a Blu-ray player. And they upscale the DVDs beautifully to near hi-def quality (well at least my Sony BR player does.)

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Thanks John for the information. Much Appreciation for that. Is it me or does the last episode of Season 7 remind anyone of the one where Gladys back in Season 1 thought she had the power and Sam and the Kravitz's had a seance and Abner was turned into a pile of dust? Except this time it's turned around with the elder Stephenses'. That episode is just hilarious. LOL too bad it's their last episode and I agree it's great to see the old Frank back.

Those interior screen grabs are horrible and Sony should be smacked for that.

But that pic of Endora on the cover (as well as on Disc 3) actually does come from Season 7 from this pic:

In fact all the pics in the entire set are actually from the correct season, just like Season 6's were.

Here are where are the pics originated from:

Durwood cover and Disc 2 as well as Larry's pic from Discs 3 & 4 jacket:

Tabitha cover and Disc 4 as well as the back of the box:

EM cover and Disc 1:

EM, Serena, and Durwood Discs 1 & 2 jacket as well as Serena's box back pic:

EM and AM Discs 3 & 4 jacket:

Had I been designing things, I wouldn't have used that pic of Durwood. I would've used this one...it's classier:

Mike,

Just some comparisons that I made recently with a PS3 BR player and my Pioneer Std Upconvert player. I did an A/B comparison since I was curious if I could see any difference upconverting the same Std DVD. I used a Bewitched disc for the comparson. It appeared that the Pioneer Upconvert player delivered a slightly better picture but it was close. Also I wasn't using a BR (not PS3) player for the test but PS3's & BR players both upconvert all Std DVD's as John posted.

David, thanks so much for pointing that out about the Endora pic. I feel slightly better that at least it is season appropriate. And I agree that the other pic of DS would have been better.

And Mike, yes, "Samantha and the Antique Doll" is a remake of the season 1 ep, "Abner Kadabra." I love when Phyllis orders Darrin out of the kitchen and the look on DS's face as he goes.

BTW, here's the scene I thought they took the Endora pic from:

Hey guys thanks so much for all the info...I just finished Season 7 tonight...I have Herbie Pilato's book and everytime I get a Season I highlight the title and rate it on a scale of 5 stars... I dont believe I saw Maurice in any episodes in season 7 since I have been watching it all week I can't remember, but I don't think he was in any episodes in season 7. Am I right? or did I miss him. Today was my day off and I won't be able to go back through the episodes for awhile now... I do know he is in several episodes next season. Thanks guys again for all the info!!

Maurice does not appear in the Seventh Season. The funny thing about Maurice is that he appears once in S.1, once in S.2, once in S.3, none in S.4 but he makes up for it by appearing twice in S.5, FOUR times in S.6, none in S.7 and then three times in S.8.

No, POTA was filmed in 1967. It was released 2/8/68 in NYC. In fact, it was because he was in LA filming the sequel in 1969 that he was available to be in S6 so often.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

I am so pleased with this season. Some of these episodes I haven't seen since the 1990s. And I am glad they are not cut like when Nick at Nite cut them. One episode hails from Season 8 and it's the very last episode with the vacuum cleaner salesman where they cut him out, but he is in the original. Now with all 7 Sets, I am anxious for Season 8. I know it's going to a long while before we get it, but at least we have 228 episodes now to watch.

What do you guys think will be included in the box set? The Movie? Tabitha Series? Personally, I think the movie was plain CRAP, but that's just my opinion. I think it didn't do the show justice and if Liz were still alive she probably would have had a fit. Hopefully, someone will do a better movie one day!

I finished season 7 today and I am so thankful it's out and now I am just antsy for the last season lol... My guess is December 2009 what do you guys think? But at least we got 228 episodes we can watch, mix them up or just compare with earlier episodes... I guess I just wish they would release the rest of All in the Family. And i still have to get IDOJ box set... how many of you guys own both the colour and black and white versions of BW seasons 1 and 2?

And, yes, I want S8 out as soon as possible. Can't wait to complete the series. And yes, I own BOTH the B&W & colorized versions of S1 & S2. I like to have the choice.

I don't think the movie is that bad, though it's not anywhere near the greatness that it should've been.

I own both the black and white and colorized seasons...and I find myself always gravitating towards the colorized even though there is a LOT that isn't colorized correctly! I think the B&W looks much better and classier, but I'm glad to have them both.

I'm itching for S.8 as well...and it's funny because it hasn't even been a week since S.7 has come out! I believe it will be released by the end of this year.

Hey David, I guess I will buy Season 1 and 2 in B&W unless you guys think the entire box set will have the B&W versions... I hope they do because it would make more sense since that's the way they came. As for extra's on the box set one we know of is where Erin Murphy gives a tour of the Ranch. One thing I would like to see is the E True Hollywood Story of Bewitched on the Box Set... and maybe some classic interviews with Liz, Dick n Dick, and Sandra Gould, Fox and Alice Ghostley...

lol I guess just putting the DVD back on my shelf just knowing one more season is all we have left just makes it feel lonely. But we have waited this long and awhile longer won't hurt. I don't remember many episodes from season 8, but I do remember the last one and the one where the Dodo bird chases Darrin and the one where Tab starts school I think 2nd Grade.

After season 8 is released we should all vote on our ten favourite episodes of the series

Keeping in mind that the releasing company is Sony, I highly doubt that the Complete Box set will include the b&w. Of course, I'm basing this on what they did for the three episode release they packaged with the BW movie DVD and the fact that the IDOJ set had only the colorized episodes.

I do agree that the E! True Hollywood Story should be on there, as well as the MSNBC Headliner's and Legends about EM, the EM Biography, and the ET Tonight BW special.

I appreciate hearing that! I liked writing them. It turns out though, that I didn't really start writing the comprehensive descriptions until S.4 and that was because I had a job where I had access to a computer and a lot of down time and so I just started writing them. I've actually had all of them written since S.4, which is lucky, because I lost that job.

So I didn't really write anything much for S.1, and here is what was from S.2, which is where you can see the 'format' for the following seasons starting to take place:

Re: Bewitched Season 7

David, do you have any pull with Sony? I just hope they have more pics of Esmeralda, Adam and Louise Tate. It seems like they forget about them. I know the Kravitz's and Darrin's Parents won't be in the Eighth Season. Also, who was the new character they were going to introduce if Bewitched ran for the 9th season? I have read that on various websites? It would have been interesting to see.

Thank you so much David for posting those links. Sony should hire you to design and write for Bewitched Season 8 and the Box Set. Maybe they will read this and see how much we love the show and want the original pictures.

David, I do have a question for you it's been bugging me. What episode was it when Samantha went to the English castle to help the ghost that was lonely and she got the ladies in there to tour and the ghost became nicer? I remember she dressed up as a tour guide, but I can't remember what season it was from. Maybe it was season 8. Thanks so much

Liz finally got her star in 2008
