Mixing speaker brands in 7.1

My gut tells me this is a dumb idea but here goes.

I have 6 Klipsch speakers (4 floors, 1 center, 1 sub) set up in a room now with a 7.1 Onkyo 805 receiver.

In another room, I have 5 Premier Accustics speakers that are OK but are not my favorite drivers. Anyway, two of the PAs are smallish bi-directional units and they don't fit the room ideally so I'm considering moving them into the Klipsch system.

I beleive all the drivers will be 8 ohms. The effeciency rating of the PAs and Klipschs are similar - 91DB, but I suspect the Klipschs are more effecient.

Will this work out OK: I'm very picky about stuff like this.

Anyway, the other option would be to buy 2 Klipsch bookshelf drivers or just leave the 5.1 as is.

Thx..

Re: Mixing speaker brands in 7.1

You should strive to have all speakers in a system as much the same as possible, or risk having sound that changes qulaity from location to location. e.g., voice timbre different when an actor moves from center to side, airplane sound noticeably different as it flies by, etc.

IOW, don't mix types, let alone brands.

Ditto, Chuckg's comment. Makes a difference to have the speakers matched as closely as possible.

Re: Mixing speaker brands in 7.1

When you say don't; mix types, let alone brands, I assume that means don't mix Klipsch floor speaker units with Klipsch bookself speakers?

...or do you mean don't mix bi-directional speakers from the same manufacturor with non-bi-directional speakers (again from the same manufacturor)?

So, if I want to expand the existing Klipsch 5.1 system by adding two more drivers, I should go with another pair of Klipsch floor speakers, not bookshelf units?

The room is 18 x 10 and is kinda full now. I figured adding 2 more speakers would be best if they were mounted off the floor, I suppose.

...any ideas are helphful.

Thx..
