movie or bowling? Mixer night

As most of you already have heard, we are having a mixer night at the Orleans Casino.
I'm a boss over there and actually helped Ron set up the mixer night.
I had mentioned to him that we have a 16 plex movie theater there, and said that maybe some of us might do a movie before hand since we will be eating a little late that night.
Gives us something to do before hand.

But I also completely forgot that we have a huge bowling alley upstairs.

So my question is...

Would anyone be interested in bowling or a movie.

obviously a movie before hand or bowling before/after the mixer.

Now, what I might be able to do is score us movie tickets for everybody that wants to go. This isn't definite. But I can try my hardest to get us free tickets to what ever we want to see.
The other option for the movie is that some of the theaters have the private boxed in sections.
I can try an get us a key for that PRIVATE room.

Bowling I probably wouldn't be able to get us a discount.
I can get us a discount on TGIF's but not bowling.
Go figure.

So I just need to know who would be interested in this.

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

I am in for what ever you guys put together, as far as the bowling or movie..I really don't care..I would rather just do a meet and greet. I want to just meet the people that I chat with here on the forum....a face with the name would be great.
Looking forward to the event.

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

I went to visit the private theater(1 of the 2)

and let me tell you, I wish I would have known about this sooner.
This whole time I could be using this key to see all my movies in complete privacy.

Sound proof, very private.
It's own lighting and sound control panels on the wall.
It's own private staircase.
we have to take an elevator to get up there.
and if you need to use the restroom, you have to take the elevator back down.

theater holds 8 people.

I've already asked if I can have the key for June 23rd.

So if anyone wants to, I can take 7 people up there.
We can bring food up there, but we have to be careful.

I'm already taking the key for May 22nd for Indy Jones.
While there will be a packed house for it, I'll be in that nice theater all by myself.

For June 23rd. 7 people.
about a 5pm/6pm showing.

I should be in town by 4 or 5 PM on the 23...maybe the wife and I can get in on the movie.

John,

I would be in for this.

Please be aware that if there is setup that needs to
be done I will have to bow out but I am certain I will
have no problem finding someone to take my place.

I'm always up for a movie! Add me to the list of popcorn munchers! Any idea what time we meet and what we might see?

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

The private theaters are in theaters 6 and 7.
Which is the largest of their theaters.
So it's basically what ever is new from that week or past week.
So like right now both theaters house Naria sequel, and Thurs one of the theaters will house Indy Jones

My guess, on what movie(s) will be there...
Incredible Hulk
Get Smart
Happening

No set up is needed.
The control panel is right there on the wall.

meet time.
I guess it depends on what time everyone wants to meet up.
I say 30 mins or so before show time?
to get concessions, tickets and find decent volume control.
We can meet right in front of the theater.

It's at the Orleans just upstairs from TGIF's.

I can't get free passes but I can make sure we get discounted passes, on my discount
But I did get the key to the private theater which I think is the best thing

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

How big is the screen in the private theater? what kind of pj? film or digital?

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

The private theater is actually part of the actual theater.
It's just in it's own enclosed area.
So the screen is like any size you find in the largest house theaters

The theater can project digital, but they haven't ran a digital movie in quite some time which I find odd.

This definitely sounds like a fun time. Depending on the movie I'd be interested in going.

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

Very kind, John--thank you.

Although bowling would make for more social interaction than sitting next to each other in the dark, FWIW I would prefer the movie option to embarrassing myself bowling. I think Get Smart might be the best bet (?), based upon both advanced (bad) buzz on Incredible Hulk and the fact that it opens a week earlier (so many may have already see it?).

So this separate enclosed space shares the main house's screen, but has a separate surround sound system with volume control independent of the main house?

Yep.
I went up there during my break for a few minutes while Speed Racer was in there.
There's a sound panel that controls the volume, THX mode..etc.
It's soundproof, very private.
SO you don't get bothered by kids, talking people, cell phones.
All the things that annoy us when we try to enjoy a movie.
I'm going to use that room on Thursday afternoon for Indy Jones, so I can tell you more about it when I ACTUALLY use it.

Now, if we have more than the 8 people that it can hold, I will get the SECOND key for the second room, which will either have the same movie or a different one in there. Just depends on how they have it set up for that week.

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

It's looking like Get Smart will be in that theater.
Almost 90% sure.

Now, I did get to use the room for the first time last Thursday for Indy Jones.
While I hated the movie, but the experience to be in a private room, with your own sound system and having all the room you want was very relaxing and peaceful.
I was even looking down at the area that I would have been sitting in, if I was in the regular theater, and I saw people talking, on their cell phones.
Which would have driven me nuts.
People even saw me in the private theater before and after the movie, wondering what I was doing in my own private section

One thing I didn't know was, that once I'm in the room, I have to walk back downstairs and return the key.
So that will be another reason why I would want to be there about a half hour early. So that way I can also get my concessions, and if possible open up the second room. IF NEEDED.

At this point, it looks like I have about 8 people(Including me), which fills it up.
I have already secured one room for us.
and explained it's for EMA/hometheaterforum.com
I'm just glad my boss is a movie freak

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

My apologies as I haven't got back to everyone.
I've had major internet problems this past week, due to a transformer blowing and not being fixed until just now.
Let me reprise the list.

I was told last night, that the only way we wouldn't have the room, is if a "high roller" needs it.
I highly doubt it as were going on a monday late afternoon.

also, the second room "might" not have Get Smart, it might have Incredible Hulk. But things are looking good for both theaters to have Get Smart.

Re: movie or bowling? Mixer night

John,

I just re-checked my flight itinerary, and realize my flight is "scheduled" to arrive in Vegas at 3pm, with a 60% on-time rating.

I think it would be safer for me to bow out of the screening so I am not rushing to get to my hotel to check-in and then rushing to get to the theatre, and possibly arriving late.

Thanks for putting this event together, and I'll meet up with you guys at TGI-Fridays later that evening.

I'm looking at about 5:45-6pm start time.

With trailers, the movie will last about 2hrs.

It's definitely two private theaters, so one room may end up seeing
a different movie.
Again I'll post that info when I get it.

These are just lists of people.
NOT separated by each private room

1.John Steffens
2.Ron Epstein
3 & 4.Ray Jr. & wife
5.Sam Posten
6.Andrew M
7.Brenden Surpless
