I suspect that this might be one of those titles too - but it is most certainly not an "uh-oh" for me. "Cool Hand Luke" is an evergreen title that deserves the special packaging!

I'll definitely be purchasing this - I never did pick it up on DVD and Cool Hand Luke is one of my favourite Paul Newman movies.

I'm surprised Warner aren't making this more of a "fully loaded" release, this is a great movie that deserves the best treatment on Blu-ray, however this looks like it could be a let down.

You got a commentary and a new featurette so what else do you want?

Special Features
Commentary by noted writer and Paul Newman biographer, Eric Lax
All new featurette: A Natural-Born World-Shaker: Making Cool Hand Luke (an in-depth look at the creation of an uncompromising classic)
Theatrical trailer

Crawdaddy
G.W. McLintock: Camille, you're on your own.

Re: Cool Hand Luke Deluxe Edition - Blu-ray 09/09/08

I simply thought it would have more extras, more in line with the likes of the Bullitt and Bonnie and Clyde Special Edition releases.

"Cool Hand Luke" deserved to get a Special Edition from Warner Bros. not just the Deluxe Edition treatment. It's not even going to be a book release...

I'll just have to wait and see just how comprehensive the "featurette" is.

Re: Cool Hand Luke Deluxe Edition - Blu-ray 09/09/08

This showed up on my doorstep yesterday. Didn't get a chance to watch it all, just skipped around the first few chapters. I've never seen the film before so take that into consideration. What I saw appeared solid though. I saw no undue EE, and the image appeared natural. I don't know the level of DNR utilized, but the image looked smooth and silky while at the same time not waxy or scrubbed. I suppose there could be high frequency detail that has been filtered out (couldn't see anything in the way of grain in the shots I watched) but at least it doesn't have the feel of digital moreso than film.
I look forward to seeing what those more familiar with the material think, but will be suprised if anyone finds this unacceptable.

Very good looking disc. More via A Few Words...

"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did."  T.E. Lawrence
