Re: *** Official IRON MAN Discussion Thread
I was one of the few people I knew that read the comics, and after so long this felt like a really good start to a series. Loved RDJ as Tony Stark, he fits this charecter so well. Great look to the suit and I thought the Rhodie bit: "Next time baby." was funny as hell. I guess he's also not naked under there after all eh? LOL
I see the garage, but I don't saw the garage. You are speaking incorrectly. You are moidering the king's English! Et cetera! See, saw, see...

Still, he's lightyears ahead of Tim Story IMO, and I know that he's not just a schlock for hire-- from the sound of it he takes great care with his projects.
Also, Favreau was on an episode of Monk a season or two ago as a dentist. He must have weighed 100 pounds more then. So props to him for losing all that weight and finding all that hair.

Jon Favreau didn't direct Swingers -- Doug Liman did.

Does Marvel Studios now have the rights to their already produced characters, like Spidey or the X-Men? I know they have plenty of other films to do (Cap, Ant Man, Thor, etc.) but it would be nice to see their version of Fantastic Four or Daredevil vs. the somewhat lame studio versions. Or would there have been any difference? Favreau's Iron Man just feels more like a Marvel Supers movie should and I don't know if it is coincidence or the more direct involvement of their parent company.
Any thoughts or good links to stories about this? I hope that Box Office blows this budget out of the water so we can be assured of future movies with Iron Man in it as well as the promise that post-credit scene hints at.

This is the one thing that pissed me off about Marvel movies (& Different studios). Is that if another character is with another studio. It can't be mentioned. For example. In Daredevil. They couldn't have the reporter work for the Daily Bugle (because the rights were with Spidey & Sony). So they had him work for the Post.
I hope now Marvel has a clause in any new deals. That other characters, places, etc can be mentioned. Even if they are with another studio.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Re: *** Official IRON MAN Review Thread
I loved it - and I wasn't a fan of Iron Man before this. While it may not be the "best" comic-book movie ever made, it may very well be the most fun!
Question: I didn't know to stay until after the end-credits. Could someone please tell me what scene I missed? (Spoiler tag it) Thanks.

I have to agree that as comic book adaptations this isn't up there with Batman Begins or Ghost in the Shell, but it's certainly in the same ballpark. Mostly I think the positive response it's getting (i.e. claims that it is better than Batman Begins) comes from the lighter tone.
Anyway, someone mentioned that the Mandarin was hinted at.
Unfortunately, I never really read any of the Iron Man comics that involved Mandarin, so I don't really know his story that well. Can someone tell me what the hint was? Was he one of the baddies in the caves at the beginning of the movie?

RDJ's battle with drug abuse makes him a risk when it comes to high dollar productions (insurance, and so on), so I could see that RDJ would have to fight for the role given that there are other alternatives if they passed on RDJ. But that's not to say RDJ isn't a talented actor, he is, he just has a lot of past baggage that requires him to do more than someone with less baggage for roles he really wants.

I read that there was quite a bit of improvising on the set when they were shooting, as Favreau wanted some funny choices in certain scenes to keep the energy level up in the film.

Absolutely loved the IM movie which I saw last night.
RDJ is IM imo and he nailed the role perfectly.
I really liked how they kept introducing characters from the comics such as Jarvis or Shield.
I watched al of the credits to see about SLJ's cameo as Nick Fury, awesome

I also enjoyed the film. Very steady workman like structure to the movie which builds to its climax "I Am IronMan" cue music.

Perfect cast especially Gwennie and Leslie Bibb (yum yum).
Loved Stan Lee's little cameo, it was spot on.
This will make a great Blu-ray disc!!!
