i have pre-order Vega$ and i should have my copy be the end of the month. I am looking forward to watching the show. October 2009 is a good month for releases with Married with Children (last season), Get Smart! 4th, Mannix 3rd, Hawaii Five-O, etc.

Long live classic tv from 1960s-1980s. I missed the old shows and can not stand what is on tv now. I think the past 12 years that i have only been interested in a few shows, like Corner Gas, Enterprise, Silk Stalkings, Melrose Place, Pacific Blue, Third Watch, etc. I have been collecting dvd and it is only tv that i watch anymore. i only have basic cable and internet. I am more concern about the internet then i am about tv.

Paul,

Ditto on the older shows.  The only thing I'm not sure about with Vega$ is the split-season format.  I'm not a fan of that but I'll probably get this one anyway.

You're doing better than me with recent shows   The last things I watched on network TV was around the mid 90's.  I haven't seen any show since then except for "Firefly" on DVD.  I know there's been some good shows here and there since '96 or so, but since a lot of that is available on DVD, unlike some of the older shows, I can check out any of the recent shows that might intereest me on DVD down the road.

"Checkmate King Two Out"   Jeff Willis  "Combat! A Selmur Production"

I'm a 50's - mid-90's TV/DVD Collector. One DVD show since '96: Firefly

The Fugitive/See Hollywood & Die: [Miles] "What, you think I'm crazy?!" [Kimble] "Next question."

Mine's shipped, too. I have a feeling it's going to look pretty darn sharp and good, ala Streets oSF, I can't imagine it being in a poorer shape.

Got my set yesterday, and happy to report I'm not disappointed! It may not be shining quite as gloriously sharp and spotless as StreetsoSF, but overall it's pretty damn close to it actually, definitely countless leaps ahead of the murky smeariness that is Cannon. -No comparison, so no need to mention that really.  I found the last episode to be especially fine, which leaves me with little worry for the later releases. Well worth getting, no question about it, and if you want me to put a finger on anything 'bad' (besides the almost traditionally missing subtitles) it's that the sound on the episodes is a tad low. Subs would've been welcome there. Other than that, no need to think twice here, and that title intro is still a true masterpiece. Bring on the dancing girls...!

Picked up Season 1 Vol 1 today at Best Buy.

The back of Paramount's TV series DVDs seems to almost always state somethign about being edited / music changes.

Can anyone verify what these changes are if any. latelely Paramount just puts that on their releases for legal reasons. (i think)

It's part of the company's crummy track record when it comes to securing music rights for home video. It goes as far back as the VHS days of Paramount Home Video in the 1970's.

I don't even remotely believe in what corey3rd said in the Taxi Season 4 thread about the company having "realistic expectations". No, they don't. The real reason is that they are lazier than ever in securing music rights, and it shows no signs of changing.

You don't have to believe what I'm saying, but you do need to face a hard fact that the folks at CBS have a pretty good idea of how many copies of Taxi Seasons 1-3 they've sold - especially in the four years since the last Taxi was released. They do have a pretty good idea of how many season 4s will be sold (and it's not going to be more than season 1, 2 or 3). The folks in clearances are given a hard budget to try and nail down things that need to be secured. They make a call to the music publisher and if the number quoted back is too much - they're not going to haggle for months or pay an outrageous fee. They've got 24 episodes to deal with instead of 1 movie.

I have dealt with music publishers and there's those who love the exposure and others who want your entire budget for a ringtone.

Do you have proof of this laziness? Or is it just your arm chair hunch?

Been watching the Vegas for a while and it doesn't sound too glaring as far as music goes. There's quite a few discoed up versions of songs getting played in the casinos. The background music sounds cribbed from Isaac Hayes' Shaft score.
