AirPort disappeared!

I had my iTunes and Airport all set up wonderfully. I could play iTunes through my stereo and I was happy. The sun shined, there were rainbows, forest nymphs brought me wine, mythical creatures sang medleys, I was in the land of Apple goodness...

Until today. Today I tried my iTunes and the stereo did not work... I looked at the airport and it had the flashing amber light of doom. I ran the airport utility and it did not see the device. I reset the device and the utility was able to see it - but when I went through the setup and it restarted the device, it was no longer seen...

I tried to plug it in with an ethernet cable, it says it found an Airport Express that is reporting problems... click continue to resolve problems. I click continue and it says the wireless device does not have a valid IP address. (it used to - what happened to it?) It shows this;

Connect using: Wireless Network
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
IP Address: 169.254.77.138
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0.
Router Address:

It then tells me to click continue to proceed, but if I do it asks me to either ignore, cancel or skip...

I use this device not only to listen to iTunes, but also for my Wii to connect to the internet (the Wii does not like my Belkin Router, so I run it through ethernet to the AirPort...) With the Wii disconnected the airport is still not working.
So what happened to my Apple goodness? It worked, now it does not? Whats going on? Does Steve Jobs just hate me? You can tell me - I won't cry... much...

I am really getting disillusioned with Apple. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt with Fusion - afterall it is PC on iMac - PC is bound to be a mess... but this.. this is all apple....

Please help. I miss my nymph-wine. (and yes, I'm drinking wine right now)

Re: AirPort disappeared!

Did you try just unplugging the airport express (from the A/C outlet, that is) for a couple minutes, then plugging it back in?

Re: AirPort disappeared!

yes, I unplugged it for the better part of the day. I also tried the outlet right behind my mac. I don't know how - but I am suspicious it has something to do with my Fusion troubles...

Re: AirPort disappeared!

Eric,

I don't have your setup but that IP address looks like one of Airports mysterious self-assigned IP addresses I've experienced a few times (like Airport is to fast to wait for the router to assign an IP). It specifically happens when trying to use my wireless router (D-Link 624) set to WPA2 security. To stop it I had to switch it from WPA2 to WPA. If you have that option give that a try. A login or restart may be required afterwards.

If that doesn't help maybe you can turn off DHCP for that Airport Express and manually assign it an IP address.

Re: AirPort disappeared!

I have a thread open at the apple forum also. I tried manual and got a green light - but it still is not visible on the utility. The real strange part is that it was working just fine, then stopped. I am suspecting a hardware problem.

Re: AirPort disappeared!

I called Apple support and they had me change my network from WEP to WPA. That fixed the AEX, but now my XP computer won't see WPA!!!! I have an older belkin wireles G network card and the driver update is not working for WPA... Their tech support is now working on it...
