Not much to go on except the date of the release.
I wonder what Elite will do with it.

Here's more info about this release. Too little information so far, but keep an eye on that page for updates.

Re: Orson Welles DON QUIXOTE from Image, August 5

Warner should just stop all the restorations of Magnificent Ambersons and release the laserdisc master on DVD (afterall, it was released in other regions). I don't even know why they care about such a nuisance and people keep complaining. Like waiting for King Kong restoration didn't worth it!

Back to Don Quixote, Image now posted artwork on the link above.

Regarding THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, didn't I read somewhere that Warners is looking for missing footage, or found it but couldn't get their hands on it, or had heard where it was, or something?

They said some time ago they were looking for a better source from which to make their transfer; saving some kind of miracle you only find in the movies, the missing footage is gone forever.

Re: Orson Welles DON QUIXOTE from Image, August 5

Warners has been saying they were looking for better materials for AMBERSONS, and just maybe they were, but Beatrice Welles sued over the rights to CITIZEN KANE and AMBERSONS several years ago, claiming she owned both films due to some contract she had dug up. The AMBERSONS part of the case was only settled within the last year, which is probably the real reason we haven't seen a DVD - Warners was hardly going to release something involved in a legal tussle.

That QUIXOTE disc will in all likelihood be the same version released elsewhere in Europe already, which is Jess Franco's abysmal attempt at finishing the film.

From one Welles fan to another, watch a few YouTube clips and save your money. It is terrible. Someone needs to put some money behind a decent edit or making-of documentary to make this material watchable.

Good to see Welles material getting some kind of attention, but this is the last thing we need in his underreleased catalog.

Last year Warner said they had located "good elements" for Ambersons. But unless a complete print is in Beatrice Welles' basement, we're getting the 89 minute version. Every Welles thread comes back to Ambersons.

From the 2007 HTF Warner Chat:

PeterNichols: All's well that ends Welles... My subject is Orson Welles. When will WB release The Magnificent Ambersons and/or Journey Into Fear? Or heck, any other Orson Welles related stuff? Including HD.

WARNER: We have finally found good elements on AMBERSONS, and plan to release both AMBERSONS and JOURNEY in 2008.
