Re: GTA IV
You know...
I seem to have very little patience for these structured games.
I am having a blast with online multiplayer COD 4 and
I think I am going to try the online GTA 4. I might enjoy
that better.
Also just ordered Halo 3 as it looks like that may be a
cool online experience.

Re: GTA IV
Should any of you guys need to take in some quiet time in between the mayhem, I suggest that you turn on the television in the apartment....I've seen 'Waning With The Stars' and 'Republican Space Rangers' so far.....hilarious stuff.

Wanted to continue the missions, but decided to put those off until the weekend.....somehow I ended up crashing the gates at the airport and dodging cops/swat/army/police choppers while weaving through taxi-ing planes. If you want to amp up your wanted level, that's a sure-fire way to do it.

If you come across a wooden ramp somewhere (I wish I could tell you where it is, but I'm not familiar with the surroundings yet) and you have a fast car (in my case, it was a souped-up Dodge Charger-like car), I suggest that you gun it......the resulting jump sequence over a rocky ravine is spectacular.
Loving this game....

Re: GTA IV
My problem is that I think I have some sort of ADD. I have
very little patience and my attention is easily swayed, so playing
structured games causes me to lose immediate interest.
Before I jump into the multiplater GTA4, can someone
explain to me what happens?

Re: GTA IV
GTA4 is a hoot, and it's only structured if you let it be. Nobody says you have to follow the single player storyline (you can always come back to failed missions by reading the message on your cell phone. Otherwise, just 'jack a car and drive around.
And Rockstar has a tremendous sense of humor! I decided to pursue the elusive "Michele" to see how far I could get. Finally, after date number three I was invited up to her apartment and I almost fell off the chair when the girl started purring, the vibration control started humming and I was awarded 5 achievement points for the "Warm Coffee Achievement."

Great homage to the "Hot Coffee" mod of GTA3 on the PC.
I loved it! Way to go, Rockstar!

"Michele, what's your sign, baby?"
(Niko is a wild and crazy guy).

| The driving in this game is extremely difficult compared to the last 3 GTA games. It's a shame they didn't keep the driving(arcade style) physics of the older games. My best advice to you: The more expensive the cars look the better they usually handle. If your cornering at high speed, let up on the accelerator a little, and use the handbrake. |
I need to "jack" a motorcycle. I do much better on a motorcycle in the GTA games, but they appear to be a bit scarce in this one.
My aforementioned lack of coordination has kicked in earlier than I thought. It was bad enough that I managed to dent up Michelle's ride on our first date, but I can't complete the "Bleed (something)" mission where you come to Roman's aid at a basketball court. After beating down the two thugs, once I jump back in Roman's cab to chase "the one that got away," all bets are off. He gets away every time, because that cab handles like sh*t...
When she embraces, your heart turns to stone
She comes at night, when you're all alone
And when she whispers, your blood shall run cold
You'd better hide before she finds you...

I bagged Michelle and I didn't see anything about achievement points. Does the game tell you this, or did you just see it in your game activity tally?

First of all, I'm assuming that you are playing the XBox360 version since the PS3 version doesn't incorporate Achievement Points. (Please don't take this the wrong way - I mean no disrespect. But sometimes the most obvious question is the solution.)
That said, here's what I did: It took a total of three "dates" with Michele before she invited me up to her apartment and that's where the fun (and the achievement) kicked in at 5 points. As I was playing the storyline of the game I would occasionally call Michele after my initial date. She finally agreed to a second date (which went well but no invite upstairs) and then after a third date (to get some Chicken at one of the fast food joints) she was mine and the rest is history.

Of course, I always acted like a gentlemen around her and I would imagine - given the level of detail that Rockstar has created in this game - that this might play some roll in whether achievement points are awarded or not. Does anyone else know for sure?
This game keeps unveiling new surprises.

No I'm on PS3 so I did not know about XBOX acheivement points.
Speaking of PS3. Does anyone know how to get voice chat to work in multiplayer game. I paired my bluetooth earpiece with my PS3 but the game did not have me as being voice chat capable.

That puts your original question into perspective. I was wondering why you weren't "rewarded" after nailing Michele The Friendly.

Sorry I can't help you with your question regarding voice chat on the PS3. I have a PS3 (best darn Blu-ray player out there and has been since Day One!) but I play very few games on it. And those titles which are on both next gen platforms I always buy for the 360, mainly for the existence of achievement points and some other extra content via Xbox Live. It was surprising to me at how much these achievement points add another entire layer to gaming. At first I thought it was a gimmick but then I was drawn in (when implemented properly - some achievement point parameters are almost impossible to attain in certain games). Smart move by MS to differentiate identical games on the two platforms by adding this challenge.
One question for you, Will. I assume that scoring with Michele basically involved a similar scenario on the PS3 as I described on the Xbox360? I'm not obsessing on this topic, but I was just curious if the game play on both consoles is as close as they say it is (other than the extras).
Thanks.

At this point the answer is, "Yes." Word has been circulating that GTA4 is scheduled to be released in Europe for the PC in October of this year and then I would assume it would filter its way worldwide. However I haven't seen any definite release date (not that there isn't one).
I wonder if Rockstar and Viacom are perhaps a little concerned about more "Hot Coffee" situations popping up. That's harder to do on a console without some major effort on the part of the hacker and the hackee.
Of course, any PC game that has any sort of readily (or not so readily) obtainable developer's kit associated with it could become a target for some dedicated "unauthorized mods." It is my understanding that the "Hot Coffee" mod took advantage of some code that had been imbedded by someone inside. I'm sure that the suits have tried to discourage this type of behavior from happening again but who knows?

Well, on the first date we went bowling, I guess the first time that date is kind of forced on you. And IIRC on the first date the game did not give an option to try to get an invite upstaris. The second time, I took her to a bar, ended up drunk and then drove her home. The gave gave an option to either just drop her off and leave or to "try your luck" which I did and ended up nailing her. Third date I took her to play darts (Much easier than bowling by the way) she got kind of bored by it, but I still ended up getting her again when we got back to her place.

Re: GTA IV
I'm having the same problem with voice chat. My headphone is paired but it doesnt show me as being chat enabled. OK, I think I had it paired but not connected, trying that again!
I'm on the PS3 as well, as Kadath. Will add Marty2015McFly later. If other PS3 players are around let us know! The Multiplayer is a hoot but I miss the XBLive 'it just works' factor for voice chat and achievements.
The Collectors Edition is worth it for the soundtrack ALONE. The box is slick and the artbook is amazing.
I've had 2 hangups on the PS3, and i have a day 1 60 gigger =/
If you are getting lost driving SET WAYPOINTS. Cannot tell you how much better driving is with the GPS enabled. Also, if you find driving boring TAKE THE TAXIS. Dont jack a taxi, ride in one! It's worth the cash.

Re: GTA IV
For those having trouble getting a headset working, I didnt realize its a frigging three step process:
1, Sync the two
2, Tell the headset to connect
3, Set the headset as the mic input and chat output, then tell the game to mute the radio when voice chat is on.
Finally got it working.

Has anyone gotten the thing to work where you tie this in to your amazon email and it gives you a link to download the mp3 from their store? The soundtrack is great and I love the tracks on the cd that comes in the collectors box, would like the link thing to work for a few additional ones tho.
