Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

Like nothing you say and no advice you give matters and has fallen on blind eyes?

For instance, and this is one variation of many of these types of things that may or may not happen to you, too, someone asks a question in a thread, you answer it, then someone else comes in after you and answers it as well and then the one who asked the question thanks THAT person instead of you? Like your not even there and never answered them?

I'm not one to nit pick about such trivial things but it's been happening a lot lately.

I'm just venting, that's all, has anyone else gotten that feeling, even if it's just from time to time?

Not really. The fact is that a lot of people will click on the last posted comment. They might never see previous postis because they are too lazy or just don't care to read the entire thread.

Perhaps, but I would think it would be only natural to read a post after yours when you've asked a question as there's a good possibility that it could contain the answer.

That's what I do anyway.

Why are the first and fourth post blank on this thread?

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

Well, if what I asked is true and it also applies to my ignore list, than the second, third and fifth posts are blank to me, I just blew your mind didn't I?

Nah, i'd never do that to you guys. In fact i've always maintained that the ignore list should be stricken from the forums features.

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

Well, I tend to read from the point where I last posted but I'm sure there are plenty who just go to the end and then work back until they read a post with the answer.

I'm aware that there is a group of people who go way back on this forum. They seem to know each other from forums that pre-date this one, so at odd times the atmosphere here can feel a little bit like a clique. There is some element of being on the outside even though I have been posting here for quite a few years. A person just has to live with it.

That sums up well what I was trying to express, that one can be a member here for years, in my case almost a decade, and still feel like a stranger at times. But I guess that's not surprising considering that there's been thousands of new members who've joined over the years and the one's who were here way back when might not be around here anymore.

But I still like to think that i've got friends around here.

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

I don't have anyone on my ignore list. I did put a couple people on it once, but as soon as I came across one of their posts that was "ignored" I didn't have the will-power not to peek.

I agree with you Edwin, some people dont read an entire thread. I dont mind other opinions. After a while you get to know who has an agenda, or who likes to stir up crap, just for the hell of it. Really, even at the worst of the HD battles, it wasnt to bad here. Did you guys notice how many people died off the site after the HD/Blu battle was done? Now you can tell who loves movies and HT!

I saw this post right after Inspector Hammer! first posted it. I was thinking it would be really funny if absolutely nobody responded to it, so I didn't at that time.

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

I haven't seen you for a while, John. Other than Smallville, we just are active in different threads right now, I guess. You're one of my favorite people around here, so I wouldn't ignore you on purpose. And, like you, I don't really have much use for Ignore. There are people who annoy me on certain forums, but I would rather just deal with it. The one exception is a forum where a guy has a Satanic version of The Last Supper as his signature image. I don't plan to look at that, and nothing that guy says is of any value to me.

Part of the problem is the screwy way the Latest Posts button works. Sometimes it takes you to where you left off, and sometimes it skips several new posts. I always scroll back to make sure I didn't miss anything, but maybe some people don't.

On reading the thread title, I had exactly the same thought...

This forum's membership is a bit larger, so it's harder to keep track of who's who, and also personally since I'm not in the US it feels just a bit more distant for me. In contrast, in another much smaller HT-related forum I participate in, its membership is mostly in Singapore, like me, so I have made friends there that I subsequently meet in real life, and of course some members were friends even before we joined the forum -- indeed in some threads I was trading posts with a buddy, and some other members told us to 'get a room' we'd started veering OT and were discussing other things.

That forum also organises mass-buys of HT stuff, as well as a buy/sell section, which is another common way to meet people. In fact, one very popular mass-buy is of SVS subs -- I can't bend my brain around the idea of someone taking delivery of 30 SVS subs of various sizes and configurations, then holding them until members collect them, but that's exactly what they do... (I bought mine directly long before I joined the forum, and before anyone thought to organise a mass-buy, but I'm a vocal SVS supporter )

Now is that nice? But I did leave myself wide open for that possibility so i'm glad I got at least a few replys lol.

I've curbed my internet use in general, Greg, plus I took inventory of my subscribed threads and eliminated ones that I have no interest in anymore which were a few, that also explains my apparent lack of presance. I'm still around, just in a slightly reduced capacity.

It's even worse if you start a thread and noone replies to it.

You'd think that a thread involving beer would get some replies. Or maybe people are trying to ignore me thinking I will go away. Well, I won't!

Or maybe it's just paranoia.

Or maybe I use too many smilies

Explains your problem of seemingly being ignored no?

Some of us go back to Compuserve, in the days before there was a World Wide Web or even much an internet. (This was back when dial-up was king and 9600 kilobytes was a good connection speed, and when we all walked 10 miles to school in a blizzard, up-hill - both ways Not like all the wussy whippersnappers who have taken over the HTF nowadays. Er, where was I? )

If I recall correctly, the forum was the Consumer Electronics Forum. I only discovered the place towards the end of its life, around the time I got my first laserdisc player. IIRC there were also a couple of usenet groups devoted to related issues, and groups on other early on-line services I belonged to at one time or another, like Prodigy and (ugh!) AOL. A certain amount of membership overlap between all these groups was inevitable and at some point I started hearing about this Home Theater Forum thingy from folks I "knew" on the other services and groups, and eventually found my way here. (I'm not even sure when anymore. During one forum software upgrade or another the account information of a few hundred of us early joiners were eaten by the system restored with the system's default membership date - which predated the 'web by just a little.)

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

This thread got me to look up some people I used to talk to, and every single one of them has moved on. Matt Stone, Tim Glover, Richard Kim and a few others . . . they've all not been here since last year.

Large member base or not, I think all of the active participants are recognizable. Strange you don't feel a part of that, because I would definitely include you.

Nice to know I'm remembered! But I meant that the other way around, my addled head doesn't necessarily remember which other member is interested in what. Some names do jump out immediately for me, but because the membership is so large, there are just so many fairly regular posters to keep track of, which my head fails to do. In contrast, it's easier to keep track of the regulars at that smaller SG forum.

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

I think that people generally reply to posts that they either strongly agree or disagree with or can relate with a shared experience.

Person A posts a thread.
Person B replies to A
Person C replies to A from a different point than B
Person D Replies to A and Cs points.
Person A reads B, C, & Ds posts Generally agrees with B so doesnt comment on his post but answers mostly C & D because they are the most current and is the direction the conversation is heading.
Then person E shows up and replies to C.
They head off on a little side track for a few more posts.
Person B shows back up after a day or so and notices that nobody is replying to his comments and feels left out.

(or persons A,C,D, & E are secretly PMing each other and are intentionally ignoring B and are talking behind his back)

I notice that some people make it a point to acknowledge everyone who replies to their threads and other people mainly just reply to the last post or two.

Re: Ever get the feeling that you are on the entire forums ignore list?

I don’t have anyone on my ignore list, nor will I put anyone on ignore in the future. Too many times I am sure in advance how a particular individual will respond or comment—and then that person surprises me.

I do feel that I know many of the regular contributors through their postings, even though most of you occasionally make me feel old—older even than Joe’s computer (which is much smaller than my first one).
