I setup my first 5.1 system in the living room a year ago and it was really easy to layout, since I just placed the surrounds around the couch.
Now I'm wanting to do the same thing in my computer room, but it's a bit more awkward to find a good place to put the surrounds. Check the attached pic. The small red squares are the desk and chair. The blue circle is where all my speakers should lie, right? The front 3 are easy. But if I were to install my surrounds where they should be right behind me and to the side, they'd have to be on stands floating awkwardly in the middle of the room (which I'd probably knock over from time to time). Putting them on the walls would be easy, but then they'd be way too far away (outside the circle), right? If I decided to do 6.1 or 7.1 this could be even MORE awkward (look how far the back wall is from my chair).
Any ideas?
