Advice on putting together a HT...

Recently my roommate decided to add surround sound to his 46" tv. I convinced him to avoid HTiB and he ended up purchasing an Onkyo 605. It has been great so far, we are running a Playstation 3 and DirecTV box through it to a pair of Cerwin Vega Re-30s and a DCM sub. We play a lot of video games and watch a lot of sports with some occasional TV and DVDs/Blu-Rays thrown in.

We're now shopping for "surround" speakers and are considering two options. A) buy a set of 5 or 7 speakers + a sub or B) just add rears and a center channel and continue to use my Re-30s as fronts and my sub.

Will the Cerwin Vega's be good fronts? We're looking to possibly spend $300-$400 on option A. Is it worth looking in to option B so we can spend that money on 3 great speakers to add to what we currently have? Will the Cerwin's be better fronts than what we would get in a $350ish package deal (like the JBL CS480 or SCS500.5)?
