where is L.A. Law?

I am surprised it has always been so quiet regarding this series on DVD besides the reunion movie from a few years back. I have been catching reruns on ALN here and there and would consider getting the first few years on DVD.

What's the holdup? Blair Underwood and Jimmy Smits are two of TV's most familiar and dependable character actors, plus the show pretty much opened the door and ushered in the modern lawyer program (ala Kelley shows, etc...). They could use Veronica Mars' fanbase for Harry Hamlin, etc... Plus it was a must-see Thursday staple from the peak days of Cosby all the way until the days where Seinfeld and Frasier ruled Thursday nights.

What's holding a DVD release back?

1. It's Fox
2. It's pre-1990s.

That's the hold-up.

In other words, no chance. Fox sucks.

Re: where is L.A. Law?

It's also an intelligent, adult show. Everyone knows what that means. Unless your name is "Frasier".

Re: where is L.A. Law?

They're always going for that inexplicably-worshipped 18-34 demo, and anyone who was those ages when L.A. Law began is now between the ages of 40 and 56. Way outside the demos they want.

And Corbin Bernsen, who is in Psych now.

I would love to see this show on DVD. When it aired on NBC, I was outside the 18-34 demo.

It's Fox.

Says it all.

They'd be smart to release it while the people who watched it are still alive. But nobody ever accused the execs in charge of being too bright.

And it's not M*A*S*H, The Simpsons, or Buffy - the only three shows Fox cares about.

This is precisely the sentiment that led me to search for threads on this topic. Considering its eight-year run, its creative pedigree, and its multiple Emmy wins, I think there's a compelling case to be made that this is the most successful television series in history to be so thoroughly neglected in terms of a DVD release.

Considering MASH has been completely released, with a nice 'complete series' set to boot, as has Buffy, that leaves only The Simpsons that hasn't been completely milked dry. Surely Fox would want something else now to step up to the plate?

They don't have to splurge large amounts on extras for an initial release: just the episodes, to test the waters. And if it sells then commission extras for subsequent seasons. Although I suppose a single-season box set of 22 eps or so is still a pretty big test expense-wise.

This, like "Trapper John, M.D.," is something that I am surprised that FOX has never considered releasing on DVD.

I was just reminded of this show while watching Righteous Kill becuae
one actor in the movie was a regular on LA Law.

i would like to see this on dvd.
this was a great segue for me as St. Elsewhere was finishing up this show fit that hole perfectly.

This is partly why I have been wishing for the LA LAW series to be released--like many other fans of the show, we have teenage kids who were too young to have watched it then, but would love it now, and we could watch it all over again with them!!
