Sony STR-DG710 receiver question

Hello everyone, I'm brand new to the forum and we just recently purchased a new Sony STR-DG710 receiver. We are both pretty lost when it comes to all the settings and I'm wondering what the best surround setting would be for watching DVDs, our Apple TV and normal television?

We are currently using the Auto AFD setting for our system. Mostely because we see the display illuminate the front, rear and sub speaker indicators. We've played with other settings but just don't have much of an understanding of them. Maybe if we were 20 years younger, it would all make sense to us.

Thanks for your help. with this basic question.

Re: Sony STR-DG710 receiver question

If you have a 5.1 system (FL/CTR/FR/SL/SR/SUB), I'd recommend using PRO LOGIC II MOVIE (PLII MV) for TV and DVDs and PRO LOGIC II MUSIC (PLII MS) for CDs. If you've got a 6.1 speaker system (i.e., you've got a single SURROUND BACK speaker), then use PLIIx MV and PLIIx MS instead.

I've got a 5.1 system driven by an STR-DG1000 set up this way and I like it. YMMV
