Re: BD Sunshine - incompatible?
Honestly sounds like a bad disc.
I'm not aware of any issue with Sunshine overall and mine plays fine. It could be a bad pressing or a small crack in the substrate from mailing that you can't see easily. There's always going to be a small number of discs that just don't come out properly. I've had about 6-7 regular DVD's over the years that just wouldn't play despite looking fine.

Re: BD Sunshine - incompatible?
It's funny how that works with the newer media. I have a combo HD DVD of Bourne Ultimatum that was a "floater" with a minor scuff, but plays just fine; conversely, the non-combo Shaun of the Dead that I got in the same shipment had a flawless disc surface, but locked up @ the 90 minute mark, likely due to some microscopic flaw. Go figure.

Often you can see the crack in the coating or substrate if you look closely enough or with the right lighting. Most often the crack is near the hub and doesn't allow the disc to read correctly even to start playing. Sometimes the crack can be near the edge of the disc and you will get lockups later while the disc is playing.
Scratches can cause any variety of problems anywhere along the playback sometimes causing skipping, dropouts, or complete lockup though most of them should be more obvious. Some people have had excellent results from the mail services, some folks have had nightmares getting playable discs -- anywhere up to 50% failures if you believe some of the complaint threads.
