It'll be expensive, but well worth it. One can only hope that From the Earth to the Moon is not far behind.

Agreed. This will be one release where I don´t complain the price! Probably "nr.1" on my Blu-ray "wish list"!
Let´s hope that the old extras are included and some HD exclusives also. Think about it; "trivia/timeline" track with real historical info (expanding the experience), PiP, etc.

(I have actually taken the "real BoB tour" in Normandy, France, following the real historical locations. It was great experience for me..)

Thanks for the post, Paul! I was also interested in the news on the DVD release of John Adams. I have already sent the link to my wife as a Father's Day gift idea hint!

Hopefully, they will offer some sort of upgrade rebate on top of reasonable pricing like Disney does.

Re: Band of Brothers Blu-ray In Works for 2008
Based on Amazon at the moment, "The Sopranos - Season 6" Parts 1 & 2 (Blu-ray) are roughly $90/each*..
So my guess is that BoB won´t be cheap..
Then again, the Japanese HD DVD-set has "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company" -documentary (77 min) + some trailers/biographies and DTS-HD High Resolution 5.1-audio (AVC MPEG-4 codec), so I would assume that this upcoming BD-set will have PCM (like "The Sopranos") and more extras than the HD DVD-set..
Let´s hope at least.

(*HD DVD-versions are now lowered to $56.49, btw)

I will be all over Band Of Brothers as soon as it comes out!

For some stupid reason I never got around to getting the DVD set so it will be awsume for it to hit Blu-ray!

I am hoping that the Blu-ray edition of Band Of Brothers will have the full blown DTS-HD MA track on it.

BonusView interviews with surviving members of Easy Company? Goddamn! Let´s hope that it´ll be true..

I am willing to be that the Blu-ray version will be using a DTS-HD Master Audio track. To my knowledge the majority of the DTS lossless titles on Blu-ray are the MA flavor. Band of Brothers is one of those titles that I will buy the day it is released. Along with Saving Private Ryan and all the James Bond movies.

Re: Band of Brothers Blu-ray In Works for 2008
HMV is reporting a November 10 release date for the UK:
hmv.com: blu-ray: Band Of Brothers 6blu (2008)
That translates to a November 11 release here in the States, which happens to be Veteran's Day. I'm pretty sure that's not a coincidence.

NOT TRYING TO START A WAR!
I know that all the HD DVD'ers were all hyped up (& most paid a lot of $$$ for this) about "BoB" from Japan. I all so know it looked & sounded better according too them.
For those that know: is this a "must" upgrade from the SD?
I mean the SD looks & sounds "gritty" good.
Would this be a "must buy" like "BotB".
Thanks & NO fights!
Now w/the extra extra's on Blu, this may be moot!
Although I have the SD (I've even watched it!); this will be some serious cash.
I'm predicting $85US or more street.
That's a lot of single title "movie money"! ;-)

You should be able to find screenshots around other forums like AVS. From what I hear, it's an easy upgrade.

Calm down, Ed. Check the HD DVD screenshots before getting folks all riled up. Dollars to donuts that means a new HD transfer. If they kept in the grain for the HD DVD version, I see no reason for them not to do it here.

Guess you don't know that "uh oh" is always said in a low (calm) voice. You don't say "uh oh" all excited like. That would be "Oh No!". ;-)
The HD DVD version has nothing to do w/this "episodes will be digitally restored for this release" release. They will not be the same. They probably will not look or sound the same.
However, if you "see no reason", then I guess we are all save from this being more processed then the previous releases, even though they are redoing it.

Who said it was a "single movie"?
I posted it was a lot of "single title "movie money"" too buy the mini-series.
In other words: I can buy a lot of "single titles" w/the "movie money" it would take too buy "BoB".
Understand?

This "BoB HD DVD"-hype was so strong partly because it was very exclusive, import-release (and which cost serious money when HD DVD was still kicking). Sure, I´m sure it was very good, but still..
Like I said earlier:
Japanese HD DVD:
*"We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company" -documentary (77 min) + some trailers/biographies
*DTS-HD High Resolution 5.1-audio
*AVC MPEG-4 codec
Upcoming US Blu-ray (NOT CONFIRMED):
*"All bonus material from the DVD release should make it to the Blu-ray, but there will also be some exclusive Blu-ray content, such as BonusView interviews with surviving members of Easy Company."
*DTS-HD Master (?)
*Tin case
I would say that the US-release will clean the table eventually.

Re: Band of Brothers Blu-ray In Works for 2008
November 11 US date and price confirmed:
Quote:
Warner Home Video and HBO have announced the US Blu-ray Disc release of Band of Brothers on 11th November 2008 priced at $99.98 SRP. Based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose, the epic 10-part miniseries Band of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army.
Full specs are TBC, though it’s likely the six-disc set will include all of the content from the DVD release. |
DVD Times - Band of Brothers (US BD) in November
I have to say, that price is a lot better than the I was expecting. The online discount (which should bring it to under $70) should make it even better. The price combined with the new features should render the HD DVD version useless (as a value point) for all but the diehards.

Re: Band of Brothers Blu-ray In Works for 2008
More info from TVShowsOnDVD:
Quote:
Back on the 4th of July we brought you a close-up look at the tin packaging for HBO's hi-def Blu-ray Disc release of Band of Brothers. We've known, since shortly before that time, that this release is planned to begin shipping later this year, in the Fall. Now HBO and distributor Warner Home Video have just sent over word that the exact release date will be November 11th.
The 6-disc set will include every episode of the award-winning mini-series, running 705 minutes, presented in remastered video at high definition 1080p resolution, and with DTS audio. Bonus material includes the Interactive Field Guide, titled "In the Field with the Men of Easy Company," which features timelines, maps, soldier profiles "and much more". Plus there's brand-new bonus material such as the Picture-In-Picture Video Commentary with the surviving members of Easy Company. Cost for this will be $99.98 SRP.

As a follow-up, amazon.uk.com has a pre-order price of £37.49. Amazon.com (US) has a pre-order price of $69.95.
But, amazon.com doesn't seem to have appropriate artwork posted yet:
