New harmanKardon AVR147 hookup question?

Hi all - quick question from home theater newbie.
My old stereo receiver died, so I got a new HK AVR147. Just started hooking up, and noticed the manual says to connect BOTH the analog and digital audio from my DVD player. Does anyone know why??

Does the analog just carry stereo and the digital carry 5.1?

I haven't got 5.1 speakers yet, I'm still just running on my old stereo speakers.

I also now realize that my old TV has only composite video in, so I won't be able to use any S-video or component video sources?

I have this receiver in one of my rooms. I only have the digital connections hooked up and it works fine.

You may have a problem with the on screen menu for the AVR though. I think it is only output through S-Vid but I haven't tested that.

Every child has many wishes. Some include a wallet, two chicks, and a cigar, but that's another story.
