What should I look for when buying a DVD recorder?

I would like to buy a DVD recorder, but I don't know squat about them. It's main use will be to transfer all of our family videos which are currently on VHS over to DVD. However, I suppose it will also be used for recording certain TV shows and maybe even copying movies occasionally. Are there certain functions I need to look for? Will your typical DVD recorder record and play music CD's (CD-R's and CD-RW's)? Is there anything else I should be aware of before I buy one?

To answer your question in the 2nd post. It's not only a Sunday, it's "Easter Sunday" for 75+% of the U.S. Most people are probably spending time with friends & family today.

I don't have an answer to the 1st post. I was just looking at the thread for some suggestions.
I certainly don't expect anyone to remember me 65 years after I die, but you wouldn't know that from the way I act.

Wait for Blu-ray recorders to come on the US market. They are only available in Japan right now.
