Speaker Sound Problems

Hi
I would be interested to know how to solve this problem I have about sound.

I have Sony SS-MB200H speakers with a Sony STR-DE310 Stereo Receiver and one speaker stopped producing sound while the other one is fine. I have replaced the wire on this and this is the second time its stopped producing sound. Would this be because of the wire I am using? Its the cheap stuff found at Big Lots/Wal-Mart which are longer than my Sony supplied original wires so I put these in a better position than keeping them close to the Receiver which is impossible to do as I am in a small apartment in the midst of finding a new residence. I mean its better to have the more out of the way, so I'm using the longer cord though one wire is in the way of where I walk so would that have helped in not producing sound because the wire seems secure at both the speaker and receiver ends or its it because its a cheap wire and I need some more pro.

Any Suggestions would be well appreciated.

I just thought you people would know because I've been reading posts here off and on for awhile and find it very helpful

Thanks!!

UPDATE:
I can use both speakers now just that one is lower in volume than the other and have used the balance knob to verify it so it seems if I put both speakers in A/B Left instead of using R/L A and have both A and B sets used it works so it seems the low volume is only the Right output on both A and B sets of speakers and I can't seem to find anything on the internet that helps so if any one knows what's going on please help. I'm guessing something is wrong with the Receiver and needs to be fixed somehow. Thank You.

Re: Speaker Sound Problems

The answer is to do a bit of careful trouble shooting.

Take the LEFT speaker and its cable, and connect it to the RIGHT output of your amp. Likewise, swap the RIGHT speaker to the LEFT output.

If the problem stays with the speaker, then either the speaker or the cable is the culprit. If the problem changes from one speaker to the other, then your amp is at fault.

If the problem does move with the speaker, then carefully check the wire attachment at the speaker, or swap just the wire from one side to the other (but keeping the speakers and outputs the way they should be)

Having wire that is too small, or too long, is not going to cause a huge difference.

Re: Speaker Sound Problems

Thanks for replying.
The Receiver seems to be at fault since the speakers have the same sound level when there hooked up through the Left sides on both A and B speaker and yet the Right is very low output when compared to the Left side so I guess I'll have to get the receiver checked.

thanks again
