Best Buy's peace offering: $50 coupon for HD-DVD owners
Re: Best Buy's peace offering: $50 coupon for HD-DVD owners
That's pretty cool, though I don't see any way to apply for it. Do they have enough info in their databanks to know exactly who bought the qualifying players? I guess so.Re: Best Buy's peace offering: $50 coupon for HD-DVD owners

I found the following info. on another forum which answers your question.
Best Buy offers HD DVD owners $10 million in gift cards, trade in, shoulder to cry on - High-Def Digest Forums
Most Best Buy customers won't have to do anything to receive their gift card. As a demonstration of its commitment to its customers, Best Buy will proactively mail cards to all customers that the company can identify as having purchased an HD-DVD player. Members of the Best Buy Reward Zone program, customers who purchased Performance Service Plans (PSPs) or who made their purchase on BestBuy.com should look for their gift cards in the mail by May 1. Other customers who may not be easily identified can call (888) BEST BUY to receive their gift cards with proof of purchase through a credit card or their Best Buy receipt.

Nice. I don't buy a whole lot there any more, but $50 is $50, especially since I'm pretty satisfied with what my HD-A1 has given me since August '06.Transplanted Life: Sci-fi soap opera about a man placed in a new body, updated two or three times a week.

Wow. This does not apply to me...but that is a nice gesture on the part of Best Buy--who certainly doesn't need to extend it. And to mail the $50 proactively on their end is a nice touch. There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Definitely great that they're doing this. However, they might *need* to do it more than you think. Afterall, they probably do want Blu-ray (and whatever other future new CE tech) to succeed in the long run -- and of course, it's good PR for them too. $10M may not be too much to *invest* into the future success of Blu-ray (and whatever else, for them) along w/ the good PR.

I bought a Toshiba laptop with HD DVD drive at BB during their Black Friday sale. I doubt that'll count since it's not a standalone player, but it would be nice if it counts.Re: Best Buy's peace offering: $50 coupon for HD-DVD owners
I'm pleased with this deal. I bought my A3 from them in November. I don't feel they owe me a thing, so this is an unexpected, and nice, surprise!Re: Best Buy's peace offering: $50 coupon for HD-DVD owners

I would imagine that Toshiba is probably funding most (if not all) of this as well as the Circuit City program. They need to retain BB and CC as customers too.

It's just smart marketing. the early adopter is more likely to come into the store and buy more tech stuff than your average consumer. This rebate takes some of the sting away from betting on the wrong horse. I doubt Best Buy will lose any money on this promotion.

Did you buy it for $100 during one of their Black Friday deals? Do you really need a refund to make you feel better about that price?

I was surprised to get the e-mail from Best Buy claiming I qualified for the $50, until I realized it was for the HD-A1 purchased back at the end of Summer '06. Talk about thorough. I'll grab some May Blu-Ray releases with it.Re: Best Buy's peace offering: $50 coupon for HD-DVD owners
