LOL, that’s funny! Welcome to the Forum, Pete!
SVS has built its reputation customer by customer on outstanding personalized service, and by building products that offer outstanding “bang for the buck.” One way they accomplish that is selling manufacturer-direct, bypassing the retailer. Regarding the former, it’s not unheard of for the owners of the company to work with customers directly! How often do you find that?
Probably the best way to get to hear their speakers is to post a thread on the various home theater forums asking if someone in your locality will let you come over for an audition. It’s been done before, I assure you! Or, just buy them and audition them at home, which is the best place to hear them. They do have a generous return policy.
Regards.

Re: Is there a way to hear svs speakers?
Pete, last year I recommended a friend try out an SVS system. she ended up getting 4 SBS-01 and an SCS-01 for the center, plus the 25-31 PCi sub. The sub is a big deal with satellite systems like this, plus the PCi has a much smaller footprint and we were able to virtually hide it. Anyway, she also got the Onkyo 605 and after I got it set up I got an email back saying "This ****ing ROCKS!!". Despite how it sounds, she's not a teenager, but in her early 40s. Anyway, the only hesitation she had was that the speakers were to "large" (her words, not mine), which is an unfortunate of the Bose phenomenon ("I was expecting little 2" plastic cubes and a little 10" 'sub'"). I consider the speakers pretty small, but in a world where most people think Bose is the pinnacle, these can seem large.
Still, whether you're happy with them is always a personal matter. They are built far better than what you would normally find in the $600 range for a 5 piece set.
They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.

Re: Is there a way to hear svs speakers?
I am pretty much in the same boat. I am very happy with my speakers BUT in the next year, I want to replace my sub with an SVS sub. I play a lot of music (2.1, mains and sub only). My room is 15x11 and sonically pretty good. I am looking for something maybe around the $1000 range or so, maybe a cylinder but it needs to be good for music and rock the house for films as well. My current sub... PSB Subsonic 6 has what I consider to be a lot of port noise for a sub so the SVS has so be virtually port-noise-free and extend low.
Suggestions?

I think I may go with the following ..... SVS PB12-Plus Powered Box Sub and since I live in Toronto, I will just pick the thing up myself at the local supplier.
