An absolutely gorgeous job of scanning and image manipulation down to HD quality, Warner's new Blu-Ray of Bonnie and Clyde is much like viewing a dye transfer print of the film, but with a bit less overall saturation and a higher apparent resolution.
There is something special about screening a new film with neither reviews nor comments from any source. This precisely how I saw the film for the first time in 1967 -- at an employee screening in NY, with no idea what was going to be on screen. It was one of those situations in which the power of a film done well comes through and stays with you.
Four decades later, the film holds up magnificently, with all of the visceral impact still in place.
Bonnie and Clyde is not only one of the great films of the '60s, but should retain a special place in many people's list of the top 100 films from any decade.
This is a meticulously produced BD disc of the highest quality, that comes Extremely Highly Recommended, and should be a part of any serious collection of cinema on home video.

I wonder if HDNet Movies gets pre-existing 1080i masters.
Either way this'll be on the MatthewA Birthday Wish List.

Mr. Harris,
You are preaching to the choir here in regards to hailing
Bonnie and Clyde as one of the best films ever made.
It's a film that I also saw at a young age and instantly fell in
love with --- particularly the performance by Estelle Parsons.
I am waiting anxiously for this Blu-ray release and am very
grateful to you for giving us an early taste of what we should
expect.

Ron,
You were allowed into the theater in 1967?

No, silly!
I first saw this film at Summer camp in the early '70s.
I had to be, at best, 10 years old. It was shown from one
of those 16mm projectors on a bedsheet. It was just awesome!
In hindsight, I am surprised such a violent film was shown to us,
but things were a lot different back then. In my high school film
class we were watching R-rated fare. Can't get away with that kind
of stuff anymore in today's society.

Scott: You are going to love it. Guaran-freakin'-teed. And if you don't, give me a good deal on it and I'll take it off your hands!
There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Warner's store is a very strange and unpredictable beast.
They just charged me for
The Song Remains The Same, which I received months ago. I need to check whether they were accurate in saying they'd never charged me for it in the first place. . .

It had some dreadful looking burns and way too much speckling. I hope so too. If Robert likes it, what we saw must of been before the work-over...?
It's one of my fav films, of course!

Re: A few words about...™ Bonnie and Clyde -- in Blu-Ray
I posted this question in the review thread but thought it
would be better asked here if I wanted the attention of Mr. Harris.
Just finished watching the this film on Blu-ray.
Certainly one of the greatest classic films ever made.
I never tire of watching this film every few years.
I have a question for Mr. Harris...
The entire scene where Bonnie reunites with her Mother seems
terribly out of place. The quality of the video gets very soft and
muddy. At first I thought this was done purposely to set a
particular mood. But in addition to the murky video, the audio
levels suffer as well. Very difficult to hear dialogue in the first
portion of that scene.
So, is this a matter of the filmmakers making a stylistic choice
or is there film damage here?

Someone posted a screenplay excerpt in the review thread that says essentially "everything is hazy and muffled."

Why would you ever be leaning toward an SD if a Blu-ray is available and you're Blu-ray capable???

Wow...once I saw the difference between the toothless hooker SD and the high priced call girl BD, I decided money would have to be no object...

Re: A few words about...™ Bonnie and Clyde -- in Blu-Ray
Well, the only reason I don't own the B&C BD is the price.
If my choice is between the cheap toothless hooker and the high-priced call girl, I choose neither because I'm not enamored with what the former brings to the table and I can't afford the other option (even if I wanted to!).
Want my business? Lower the price.
As is the case with most of the SD-DVD purchases, I buy most of my BD discs either on some kind of major sale...or from the "used" bin at my local store. If I am going to pay full price...it's got to be a major event for me.
I can't do the "money is no object" thing, even if the product is that good.
