Powering "all-in-one" sub through amplifier

Hey members, thanks for helping me out!

I've the Kirsch k10 5.1 speaker/sub system and am trying to run the subwoofer through my Sony STR-DG500 reciever.

The sub is one of those powered, all-in-one jobs designed to run the whole system as a receiver as well.... but I have a good receiver and want to run the sub from the receiver.

Currently, I have the speakers and sub hooked up to the Sony, but am getting no sound from the sub. Everything else is working fine.... test tones coming through all the front and rear speakers.
Subwoofer is enabled through the Sony amplifier.

I have the sub hooked up with one half of a red/white RCA cable from the single Sub out connection on the receiver to the 'S' connection option in the 'DVD 5.1' inputs on the back of the sub. There are 6 inputs for the dvd 5.1.... right f/r, left f/r, c and s.

There are also AUX and CD twin rca inputs..... everything else back there are speaker outputs for running the system as it was designed...

really not wanting to buy a new powered sub!

Thanks for your help!

Re: Powering "all-in-one" sub through amplifier

Sometimes it is just a setup thing on the receiver - telling the receiver you have a sub, so it will send the signal out. Go through the receiver menus, and make sure you set the Sub to Yes...

Pull the sub cable out of the Sony, and tap the center conductor with a finger. If the sub is working, you'll get clicks and buzzing.

You say you had the sub enabled on the Sony. Do you have the speakers set to "small?"

hhhmmm, what else?

What’s an “S-connection option?”

Re: Powering "all-in-one" sub through amplifier

hey guys

Sub was enabled

I tried the tapping trick... and only heard a low, soft hum coming from the sub.
I did a bunch of investigation with the remote for the sub (not sure why there was only a connection guide and not manual included...) and found that the volume on the sub was not turned up as far as I thought.
I had put it at '10' so as not to blow my windows out when I got the thing to work finally.... and didn't realize it went to '75' as a top volume.
I had been playing with the bass level on the sub.... but not the volume.

Thanks for your help!

Wayne, the 's' was the sub input for connecting a 5.1 compatible dvd player to the sub/receiver.

I'm curious. Does the sub respond to the receiver volume control or do you still have to adjust it with the all-in-one control?
