Re: 2008 Concert Season

Just added Jack Johnson to my list.

After hearing Vampire Weekend on SNL last night, I'd love to check them out (they just happened to be playing here tonight), but it's sold out.

Re: 2008 Concert Season

Seen this year:

Van Halen
Rascal Flatts*
Keith Urban*
Carrie Underwood*

Have tickets to:
Kenny Chesney* Poets & Pirates tour 08
CMA Musicfest* 2008

*people ask me all the time: I didnt know you were into country music? I reply: if you have heard any of these artists*, they really arent country, their more pop/rock with just a slight twang to get into that classification, last year at CMA 2007 Ted Nugent opened the show, and rocked big time.

Re: 2008 Concert Season

My wife and three of our girls (the ones that were old enough to go) went to Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus' Best of Both Worlds concert recently. They loved it. Those were four tickets that I would never have traded away.

The only concerts I have gone to this year are classical-related (on campus). These have included piano recitals, symphonies, and string quartets.

Re: 2008 Concert Season

The Swell Season - saw them last night, a really good time with some solid musicians, and a lot of heartfelt songs in the mix. I have no idea how Glen Hansard, with only his voice and his guitar can make my forehead sweat from his performance when he gets into his zone. That was an odd experience, but impressive too.

Next up: Rush in July.

Have fun at the Rush concert. They're my sister's favorite band. I recently purchased Farewell to Kings (I love Cygnus X-1). There are so many things to love about that track. Around thirty or so years ago, the band I was in got this silly idea that we were going to learn that tune. If they perform that one at the show you're attending, please let me/us know on the Board. I have a couple of questions that I'd love to ask about it.

I'm jealous! I'll get to see her at Bonnaroo, but that's not the best venue for her type of music. I'd like to see her at a small theater venue with good sound. I just don't see the 'Roo crowd giving her the kind of love she'd get at her own show.

Re: 2008 Concert Season

Actually, the reason I'm seeing her twice is because the first time will be at a free concert in the park, so I know what you're talking about with people giving her music the proper attention. The second time (which is at a smaller theater venue) is to basically make up for whatever dissatisfaction I might experience at the first show. Actually, having been to that free concert series, it's not so bad if you get a good seat, but you have to be there pretty early. Otherwise you're just with the people who are there to hang out more than for the artist.

Re: 2008 Concert Season

I put up some so-so photos of The Swell Season concert on my Flickr account. I was far away, and the lighting wasn't optimal. But still had a great time.

Cam's got a real nice set of photos from The Swell Season concert he went to earlier, he got much closer to the band...

I had a chance to see The Black Crowes perform Warpaint in it's entirety, but since it was prior to the CD coming out and I hadn't heard it, I skipped the show. Go figure, it's easily one of my favorite CDs of the year so far...sigh...

My neighbor's husband is out of town so I get to see Robert Plant and Allison Krause for free courtesy of one of her vendors... It's at the Bank of America Pavilion which is pretty small - say 4k seats. I've never been there.

There is a home game for both the Red Sox and the first Celtics playoff game that night - we better leave early.

Were those shows expensive, or are you simply indicating you've bought a lot of tickets to different shows over the summer?
