Hello All,

I'm seeking please all your expert advise on my new about to purchase HDTV. I looked around for about a couple of hours and was not lucky find my answer.
The two models I'm interested in are:
-Sony 70" full HD SXRD "rear projection"
-Panasonic 65" full HD TH-65PY700 "plazma"

This is a big investment for me and sure could use your advise to guide me through the right path - plasma or the latest technology of Sony.

-should i avoid Panasonic's Plasma? problems of burn-ins? or should i avoid the (new) Rear projection of Sony?

Please drop a line and help !

Re: HDTV. Sony SXRD or Panasonic ?

Sony has quit making the SXRDs, which I think is very sad news. I, personally, much rather have the Sony SXRD, than a plasma. If you can find an SXRD, you might be able to make a deal.........
Good luck!

Re: HDTV. Sony SXRD or Panasonic ?

Panasonic makes fantastic plasma displays. I am personally partial to HD rear-projection technologies, but Ed is correct that Sony is getting out of the business. I would suggest that if you do get the Sony, go ahead and spend an extra ~$300 to buy a replacement bulb. I'm sure Sony will continue to support their products, but it's better safe than sorry.

Re: HDTV. Sony SXRD or Panasonic ?

Thanks Ed, Seth for your replies, just learned today from Sony dealer in my country that 70" is out and will never be able to get one. however; they still got a couple of 60" of SXRD in store.. I wish I could have a chance to compare simultaneously, but as much as I love to be convinced in Sony rear projection, I still feel the display is a bit dark when connected to a regular satellite broadcast (no HD), Where in Panasonic 65" I kind of feel more deep pure black and image is presented in depth and more of a natural color.
I wish I find a solid proof on getting the best HD TV available in here!

by the way, Prices here "country: Jordan" are:
Sony SXRD 60" : 5000 $
Panasonic 65" : 10500 $
guys,,, are you sure SXRD is better???!!!

Re: HDTV. Sony SXRD or Panasonic ?

To each his own. One man's garbage, is another man's treasure. No matter what we say, if you have it in your mind that a plasma is better, you won't be happy with anything else. Even if I liked the plasma better, I'd still get the Sony. At your prices, the plasma is over two times more expensive. It definitely isn't over two times better.

Plasmas look very good. The thing I have against them is that they reflect everything in the room, on the glass screen, just like all our old crt's. Only worse. Since the screen is much bigger, it reflects more stuff. I despise that! I, personally will not live with it anymore, now that we have a choice. If I can't get a Sony SXRD or JVC D-ILA, when Im ready for the new tv, then I'll probably go with an LCD or LED lit DLP. Panasonic is building plasmas that's supposed to be less reflective. It is a little, but not enough, for me anyway....
Good luck!
