The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Lack of BD sales?

I apologize in advance if this is not the correct forum for this...

I noticed that in the last two weeks, both BB and CC did not list Blu-Ray titles on sale (not just current releases but older releases). It's probably timed to the Blu-Ray victory, but I'm wondering what the specific motivation behind this business practice is. Of course, every driving force behind business is MONEY.

I'm just speculating here ... since people know Blu-Ray is the winner, they would rush out to buy software. But since very few, if any, are not on sale, the stores would make a bigger profit. However, they might go to Amazon where every title is at least 30% off.

Mrs. Doubtfire (anamorphic widescreen!) for $9.99 is a deal but by the time I get there after work, it would probably be gone, as is the case with many titles at Circuit City. At least with Best Buy, you can order on-line and use In-Store Pickup, but it's not $9.99.

So I ordered it with 101 Dalmatians at Amazon with free shipping.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 3-4-2008

Well, there really haven't been a bunch of exciting BD titles coming out over the past few weeks, and HD DVD was on the ropes enough that sales to keep the numbers looking good haven't been necessary. The BDA and associated companies haven't likely felt much need to buy or barter for space in the weekly circulars as they might have in previous weeks.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 3-4-2008

Keep in mind that the bulk of the 2 for 1 sales sales were happening around the holidays when they try everything to get you in the door. Besides that Blu Ray is a very small fraction of the market, it's a dead time of year for retail so I'm not at all surprised that there's not many Blu Ray sales and I doubt there would be a sale on Blu Ray or HD DVD even if the format war was still on.

I'm just speculating here ... since people know Blu-Ray is the winner, they would rush out to buy software. But since very few, if any, are not on sale, the stores would make a bigger profit. However, they might go to Amazon where every title is at least 30% off.

There's been an awful lot of speculation, Keith in the HD Software column about what the end of the format war is going to do to software prices. Some speculate BD prices will increase because it is still a niche market and has no competition now with HD-DVD. Others figure prices will come down as manufacturers try to compete with SD-DVD.

If you are interested, J&R.com is having a Blu-ray sale of sorts on Fox titles...but the sale ends soon!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 3-4-2008

Best Buy had a small BD sale last week (there's a thread about it here).

Columbia House finally included HD and BD in its b1g1 sale on Friday, but that wasn't hi-def specific.

Also, Circuit City lets you buy online and pick up in store just like Best Buy. Maybe Keith's local store doesn't participate for some reason.

At this point, might be worthwhile to keep a lookout for occasional Blu-ray sales at J&R. Their previous sale a couple weeks back was not bad at all. Not quite as good as BOGOs, but no worse than B2G1 (and moderately better in some cases due to selection and/or pricing specifics). The current one isn't much, of course, as Mike implied.

Yet who went ahead and ordered himself a disc off that very sale...?

And...I'm a resident of NY and get hit with their sales tax charge!

Hey, Andrea! They are those doodads that get added on to a standard zipper pull to add either function or fashion to a piece of clothing.

Here's a pic of some functional zipper pulls that help people with disabilities be able to use their zippers more easily. You can bet the 101 Dalmatians lean more to the "fashion" side of the equation.

Here's some "fashionable" zipper pulls:
