Re: Carmen Miranda Collection from Fox- coming in June

Am working my way through the extras on this fine set, and noticed after the documentary on Carmen (on the "Something For the Boys" disc, there was a list of "available on DVD" titles - one of which was "Springtime In the Rockies" - has this been released without my knowledge - or is it going to part of (fingers crossed) a Betty Grable set?

How did you get an advanced copy?

And, perhaps more importantly, is the color on The Gang's All Here fixed?

Re: Carmen Miranda Collection from Fox- coming in June

Normal pre-order (and I live in the UK, too!) - I knew somebody would ask about TGAH - I am deliberately leaving it till last, as it's one of my favourite films, and I do so hope it is better this time (although the UK DVD seemed to me to be a little better visually than the original US one).

Re: Carmen Miranda Collection from Fox- coming in June

alistairKerr, Springtime in the Rockies has not been released yet. Maybe ir's a sign we'll see it on dvd pretty soon (Yes, I also think it will be on a Garble box set).
Dvd empire shipped my box set on Tuesday, and I can't wait for it to arrive.
Can yo tell me what are your impressions about the color quality of Something for the boys and Greenwich Village?
Thank you.

Don't worry about the color quality of "Something for the boys", "Greenwich Village" and especially "The Gang's All Here". 20th Century Fox gave a first class treatment on these wonderful musicals. The isolated score on "If I'm lucky" and "Doll Face" was a wonderful surprise, it seems that the songs have been recorded lately. About "If I am lucky", the black and white picture looks wonderful.

The box set also includes aCarmen Miranda booklet with many information's about the movies.

To my opinion, this is the best box set I have ever bought in 2008, I look forward the get the Alice Faye collection, volume 2 and I hope a Betty Grable volume 2 is still coming in 2008.

Thank you very much Fox, you're doing a great job, really !!!

Daniel.

Re: Carmen Miranda Collection from Fox- coming in June

Thank you so much Daniel, for all this captures.

I am realyy happy with them! Now I'm counting the days to get my box set. I think it'll arrive by the end of next week.

And yes, a Betty Grable volume 2 this year would be awesome. And I have already pre-ordered the Alice Faye Collection vol 2.

I might be wrong, but I think the Ritz Brothers box set will be dedidated to their musicals and this could include the ones they did with Tony Martin, Alice Faye and Sonja Henie. If so, the box would be a very nice surprise.

Let's wait and see whatelse Fox is reserving for us in 2008.

A nice improvement on GANG'S ALL HERE. Screen caps aren't the best way to judge, but it seems their latest attempt is a lot closer to the look of the Technicolor prints that circulated in revival houses not that long ago.

Now, the question is, since Fox has acknowledged their blunder on the recent first GANG'S ALL HERE attempt, have they announced an exchange program for those of us who bought the first disc and would like the corrected transfer instead?

Re: Carmen Miranda Collection from Fox- coming in June

I just spent the night with Carmen Miranda and enjoyed each and every one of the films from the Fox collection. I thought I would never see “Something for the Boys.” My heart skipped a beat when I saw the Fox logos for “The Gang’s All Here” since it looked drab. But as the film started I could tell it is a major improvement over the last DVD release, though color still not as good as the Laserdisc (IMO). I am glad to have it; I will make no complaints, recommend it and will enjoy it for years to come.

It seems that with this collection and the announced “Four Jills and a Jeep” in the Alice Faye collection that the only remaining Carmen US film not released on DVD is “Springtime in the Rockies.” I know that she only made 12 films in the US, but it is outstanding that almost her entire output is available whereas take Esther Williams, a major MGM star that made about 21 films and only 8 have been released, that is even not half.

My hat is off to Fox for this outstanding collection and showing their respect to this entertainer. I look forward to the Alice Faye Collection – Volume 2 and keep scanning for news on the release of “Springtime in the Rockies.” After all no one can do Chattanooga Choo-Choo like Carmen does.

Re: Carmen Miranda Collection from Fox- coming in June

I love this set so far!

Gang's All Here has excellent colour, Greenwhich Village is wonderful gem (especially the "It Goes to Your Toes" number by The Four Step Brothers + 5 unknown musicians), Vivian Blaine is a fun heroine in the Alice Faye mold, and the Carmen Miranda bio brought a tear to my eye (although it was a bit repetitive)... also--during the bio credits, "Springtime in the Rockies" is listed as "Available on DVD"!!!!! (hopefully, that does mean that Betty Grable v.2 is coming!)

I'll take studio age films from anyone who wants to put 'em out (and I LOVE classic Warners, MGM, and RKO), but I think Fox is doing by far the best job with what it has to give!
