Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

Eddie:

If you haven't decided on a plasma set I would definitely look into the Panasonic TH-50PZ85U. For a receiver I would get a Denon 3803CI, speakers I can highly recommend the Axiom Audio Epic 80 system (without the sub) and SVS PB13 Ultra. Another set of of speakers I can highly recommend are the Def Tech line. Those you have to buy locally. If you find a Def Tech dealer put in Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 / Karajan, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra any piano concerto or other favorite classical recording, set back and smile. I have a really hard time finding another set of speakers that can reproduce all the harmonics of a grand with such ease as the Def Techs. Cables of course from Blue Jeans Cable.

Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

Overall budget is $12K:

Acoustic Zen Adagio Floorstanding Loudspeakers $3150
New Panasonic Z800 Plasma 46" TV in May $2800 MSRP or 42" $2300 MSRP
BDI Meriden Furniture or equal $1300
Multichannel SACD CD/CD-R Player Marantz SA8001 $900
Next Generation of BluRay Players Profile 2 in Summer
Remote Harmony One $250
A/V Receiver - that does superb Audio for MUSIC only sessions - 2 channel & Surround
Cables and interconnects by MONOPRICE or BlueJeanCables.

I will add center channel and rear surrounds at Christmas since the Adagio JR.'s and stands are expensive.

I figure I have about $2500 for an A/V Receiver by Yamaha, Denon, etc. that meets all the current A/V codecs. ONKYO runs too hot and is out of consideration since this system is to replace system lost in house fire.

Hope that helps,

Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

I backed out of Acoustic Zen Adagio deal and am looking for speakers again.

The cables that went with the package deal were way too expensive for me.

So, speaker suggestions please.

I have twin 7 year old boys that are always fighting , running, crashing into things, and I do not believe that standmounted speakers would be in my best interests. The kids would trash them in less than one month - trust me!

I need 4 floorstanders, a sealed center channel speaker and a small sized musical sounding sub. Music is more important than HT for me. Surround speakers are for surround SACD and DVD movies.

Thanks,

Eddie

Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

Did you go and listen to the Martin-Logans yet? I strongly suggest you do before buying anything. I think you'll like them given your requirements. They are pretty massive and not likely to be knocked over but i don't know about kids horsing around near all this expensive gear anyway. Many floorstanders are top heavy and go over pretty easily not to mention grilles won't protect drivers from direct impact.

Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

Anthony,

Found a Magnolia store with M-L's in stock and hooked up for demo with M-A sub. I am going to stop there this week after picking kids up from piano lessons. It's literally 10 minutes from their Music Conservatory. I called and tried to make appointment but was told it is first come first serve since they are so busy.

Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

SACD is dying on the vine and most if not all of the SACD drives don't do anywhere near an adequate job of "bass management". Your one solution is the Outlaw "ICBM" box, which although of audiophile quality only costs about $300. Believe me - it made a heck of a difference in my system for audio playback.

EDIT now discontinued...I guess you have to shop for a used unit.

Re: DESTROYED BY HOUSE FIRE!!!

Thanks Dennis Nicholls - However, I listen to Classical Music and there are many SACD Surround Discs being issued for that musical genre. I will look up the Outlaw "ICBM" Box as suggested.
