(CC) after a title = New release in the Criterion Collection.

*SPECIAL NOTE: There has been a long-standing policy on the RoundUp to exclude any new release that is not in the film’s original aspect ratio. This week’s release of The Last Emperor in the Criterion Collection is not in the film’s OAR of 2.35:1. According to Criterion, the film is being released in a new 2:1 AR at the request of the film’s Director and Director of Photography. It is a long explanation (most of which can be found HERE) but DP Vittorio Storaro feels that films of 2.35: 1 should not be released in their OAR to home audiences because “it doesn’t work.” Even though I disagree with this decision by Criterion, I have decided to include this long-awaited re-release of TLE on DVD in this week’s RoundUp. HERE is the HTF review of the release.

The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-26-2008

Thanks for this week's roundup......30 Days Of Night on Blu-ray is the must buy for me this week. As a Highlander fan, I will get Highlander: The Source when it one day goes for cheap since I heard such bad word of mouth on it. I will also get the BD version of Justice League: New Frontier eventually.
Recently watched- The Mummy(1999)[BD], The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe[BD], You Don't Mess With The Zohan[BD], Patriot Games, Groundhog Day[BD]

Currently watching- Heroes: Season 1[BD], SNL 1976-1977: Season 2, Rome: The Complete Series[BD]

For some reason, it seems as if CC has been all about lowering its prices on Blu-ray the past couple of weeks. Lots of $19.99 prices while BB is still up around $25-$27.

Justice League: The New Frontier (Maybe in Blu, but not sure if an HD format will matter much with this title. Although, at that price, does the Blu version have everything that the 2 disc DVD version has?

Anyone know if the Target price of $10 for Night at the Museum is just for the Fullscreen version, or is good for the Widescreen version as well?

Everytime I go into Target to buy the movie, the widescreen version is always $3 to $7 more than the Fullscreen. I want the movie, but I can't support this Fullscreen/Widescreen price game they've got going....

Fixed...along with a misspelling of Comanche (in Comanche Moon). Thanks for the sharp eyes!

Eric: Once you've made up your mind between the headband and the sticker folder, please post a picture of yourself with the item upon which you eventually decided!

Valerie: Keep up the fight. Whenever I've had that situation arise (which has been at least two or three times) I seek out a store manager and point it out to him/her and see if they'll allow the adjustment to the advertised price. If not, I figure at least I've let them know they lost the sale...and why.

And I'll wait for cheaper prices on 30 Days of Night Blu and Beowulf HD (unless I can snag it at H'wood Video for 2/$20). I'm waiting on the eventual double-dip for Darjeeling.
