Re: Is the Forum on Life Support???
Holadem, who, "...could make countless cultural reference that will fly right over your head."...has just discovered one of the 3 (along with Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor) greatest comedians America has produced.
You know, the creator of the "7 Dirty Words" classic, the first host of
Saturday Night, a frequent guest host on Johnny Carson's show.
But, hey, better late than never.

Next, the genius of Jerry Lewis!

No, correct thread, I was just giving Diallo B some of the highlights of After Hours to get him up to speed.
But you have added further proof to your assertion that we can't be aware of all the facets of popular culture.
As many of the quality movie releases as I try to view, I have not as yet seen Zooey Deschanel's latest theatrical release, which you so slyly paraphrased. I'll try to rectify that soon.
Thanks Holadem.

Re: Is the Forum on Life Support???
writers strike or not the forum just doesn't have the activity that it used to have. when i came around here in 2002 the forum was popping. and it continued to do so for years. i actually stopped frequenting avs and home theater spot because i felt that the information here was much more informative and the conversation much more compelling.
and even the the strike happened that should have only effected the tv forum. even the movie forum is slow nowadays. and i could always get a laugh out of the after hours forum. but somedays i check in and only 3-5 threads even have any activity for the day. someone mentioned that the after hours forum had been retooled. when exactly did that happen and why?
any of the forums i used to visit regularly just seem slow. receiver, speaker, computer, sat. rad., media software just all seem blah.
i am just a little confused about where that pizazz went with the board.

Re: Is the Forum on Life Support???
well, let me preface this by stating that i am not trying to troll.
i just know that when i joined this forum back in 2002 (after lurking for a couple of years) and even up through early last year the htf had constant new threads or new posts. most of the areas that i frequented had brand new posts or brand new threads that encompassed at least the entire first page if not the second page.
someone earlier mentioned that i should check out the hi-def areas but when i go there i see the same thing i mentioned above.
i am just wondering why, in my opinion anyway, the activity here at htf has in my estimation declined by at least 50-60 percent.

i think i understand. i have seen more than a couple stickies threads about hi-def debates.
i surmise that one thing led to another and thus the htf now. especially based on the bold part of the initial post in this thread:

I think the learning phase is just about over for me anyway. Not that I know it all, but my theater is complete & I don't see any upgrades in the near future. In the past months I have wondered why I still read the HTF daily. I don't know why, but I feel like I am missing something if I don't. Mabe others have tapered off as their theaters or living room set-ups were completed.

i think we share the same boat. i have everything i think i want at this point. only thing i need is a bd player at this point. but i may pass on that. i am a casualty of hd-dvd...... on a side note, i think that hard hd media will end up going the way of the cd. sooner or later more folks will choose to download than have hard discs.
i guess when i got my first hdtv big screen back in april of 2002 (a 57" toshiba rptv) that all of this new tech was a big deal. but honestly i was only one of two of my peers that even went hd at that point. and even now with more joe six packs actually picking up sets i figured that there would be many more folks looking for info and sticking around. everybody i know wants a flat screen. and when my friends see my properly calibrated flatscreen toshiba they really want one.
i found this forum after hitting a link on the home theater spot. i found avs as well but i have to take avs in doses. too much going on over there with their members fussing. i guess that the lifetime of anything it is cyclical. based on what i have read and people have pointed out i think there may be a resurgence of the htf.
i have thought about posting more, but when i read someone else's post that has already expressed what i was thinking i don't see the need. if you ever look at my history of posts here you will see that i don't regurgitate the same thoughts over and over like some people are prone to doing.
but i think i will be more active as i do have a little more time available nowadays.
