Lunar Eclipse

How many of you got to see tonight's Lunar Eclipse? Although the Weather here in Florida was not the best I was able to glimpse a Partly Eclipsed Moon at about 9:00 PM and there was a Hole in the clouds big enough to let me observe the Moon in Full Eclipse for about ten minutes at 10:30!

The Next eclipse for those of us in the Continental US. will not be until 12/20/2010.

I have been watching it here in KY. Crystal clear night, but 21 degrees and windy. Burrr! It is a good show

watching it here in Ontario. cool, but a little underwhelming. anyone up for seeing the solar eclipse in the high arctic August 1st? I think there's a trip being arranged for one of the islands. At that time of year, I think the temperature will reach up to about 14D Celcius. I'm all for it.

Its cloudy here...cloudy, cold, and windy. Damn, i am tired of winter!
Yesterday morning when i went to work, the moon was very low to the horizon. Looked really big ( i know, the magnifying effects of the atmosphere in relation to the horizon ) and it had a really cool orange color. Course i work in an ER, and we tend to think bad things about the full moon!

Hazy skies in central Colorado. I saw a fuzzy blob slowly fade out and then slowly fade in again. I think I'm just calling up the Texas nutjob hotline and claiming it was a vanishing UFO*.

Same here. I'd peak out the window once in a while and there it was, shrinking and bleeding.

If I had the Funds I'd go for it, but Money's a little tight for me this year! (I went to brazil on a Mission Trip this past October, and that did a little number on my Bank Account, No Regrets! ) Anyhow if anyone here has never seen a Total Solar Eclipse I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to see one. I have been fortunate enough to see two of these events, both from Cruise Ships, in 1991 and 1998. They are a Sight to behold, as it gets gets about as dark as Twilight when Totality occurs. The sight of the Corona emerging from behind the Moon has to be something you have to see to believe! There are things that Photos/Video DO NOT Pick up! It you have a Telescope you can also see the Prominences that erupt from the Sun's Surface, During the 1998 Eclipse they looked like a bunch of pink Horseshoes stuck to a large black Beach Ball! (During Totality it is safe to look at the Sun, during all other phases you'll need to use special filters or use a "Shadowbox" (A Box with a Pinhole on one end and a Peice of white Paper on the other end to project the Sun's Image.) I also saw an Annular Eclipse in 1994, This is an Eclipse where the Moon is too far away to Completely Cover the Sun, during mideeclipse the Sun emerges as a ring behind the Moon, though not as Spectacular as a Total Eclipse they are fun to watch! (I read that a Child Skipped School to watch the 1994 Eclipse when he found out the School he was attending was going to shutter everyone in during the Eclipse. - Returning the next day, he submitted a term Paper to His Science Teacher containing Photos he took of the Eclipse, unfortunately that earned him a Trip to the Principals Office, who told him he was going to be EXPELLED for Truency! When people found out about this, (His parents were both on Business Trips overseas) there was an outcry and the Governor of the State the child was in (George W. Bush) PARDONED the kid so he could enter College the following year! (The Expulsion would have Jeopardised a Scholorship he had attained!)

The kids and I were out with the telescope and really enjoyed it. It looked more interesting before it went completely obscured; at that point it just looked dim.

I'm near Philadelphia and the sky was as perfect as it gets (crystal clear, but a boatload of surface light). Damn cold though. (I lasted 30 min, my son 20, daughter 40. The dog was ready to stay with it all the way; but was having trouble with the telescope.)

Cloudy here. Drat. I caught a few glimpses through a couple of holes in the clouds, but then a light rain started to fall.

Next one is in nearly three years, which is pretty long to have to wait for one of these. The next lunar eclipse in 2010 will again favor the Americas.

The weather was okay in my part of GA but I had to hit the sack early. Missed it completely.

I'll bet it's murder trying to clean dog saliva off a telescope lense.

Had a crystal clear view of it last night from the back window. What a show! Too bad I don't have a telescope.....I would have liked to get a closer look at Saturn's rings which I heard were quite visible during the eclipse.

Caught it last night.. crystal clear winter night... something like 7°F out at the time.

It's wierd, you really get a feel for the spherical shape of the moon when you see it like that. It seems closer... anyone else get that sensation?

We had clear skys here in Ft. Wayne, IN. My 11 year old son was waiting for this for a long time. He stepped out on the back porch several times to watch the progress and take pictures with his digital camera. Overall, he did a nice job taking the pictures. He also liked being able to stay up later than normal.

Dave, I got that sensation the other morning when the moon looked huge (kind of like the funny scene in Bruce Almighty) but when I looked at it again that night it seemed small.
