I think will Farrell has to come up with a new Character. This newest ( if you can call it that) has been done many time before in 3 of his movies. Anchorman, Blades of Glory, Teledega Nights and now Semi Pro. Its the same drab shit. when will Hollywood Realize this. Its Kind of sad

When people stop going to his movies. As long as they are profitable there's no reason for them to change. How else do you explain all those Police Acadamy movies! I liked Will Farrels little bit part in Drowning Mona. Haven't paid much attention to his other stuff.

Elf - rock solid movie.
Stranger than Fiction - not too bad either... Surprising depth of character.
The rest - ????

Somebody has to be the voice of dissent so I'll come right out and say I thought Ferrell was absolutely hilarious as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman. I just liked the whole persona he took on for that flick and some of the outtakes of him on the DVD as Burgundy are even funnier than the movie itself. As for Semi-Pro it doesn't look very good from the previews and it will probably be just like Blades of Glory which pretty much sucked.

I just dunno if you can translate his style of comedy into a 2 hour comedy. Jim Carey and Mike Myers were able to do it, but not everyone can.
The thing is I think Talledega Nights, Semi-Pro, Anchorman, etc. are all great ideas ... but probably better off as skits than a feature film.

I agree completely. I thought he was fantastic on SNL. His movies don't seem to move beyond that, though. Jackie Moon/Semi-Pro is an SNL skit on steroids.

Um.. I'll be another voice of descent.
I'm a HUGE Ferrell fan from the SNL days. Anchorman, Elf, Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory. They are all Hilarious. He seems to have found a comedy niche that he is very good at. Stranger than Fiction was a nice departure and showed that he can act a little.
The only movie that I can honestly say was crap was Kicking and Screaming. I have found all of his films very funny with Anchorman/Blades of Glory being his best.
Is it possible that this film could be jumping the shark for him? Maybe. I thought that Bladed of Glory was going to be terrible and it turned out to be one of his funniest films.
For some reason I don't get tired of is shtick.

I'm not a giant fan, but I thought both Taledega Nights and Anchorman were very funny. If only for the prayer to the baby jesus in TN. But Anchorman was pretty solid throughout.
(Then again, to give some perspective, I consider "Dodgeball" and "Borat" to be both great comedies, so there you go)

Ferrell is no different than Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller or any other comic actor. Some people love them, some people hate them and the rest are somewhere in between. Nothing is more subjective than comedy so it's no surprise that certain individuals might find Ferrell's movies hilarious others think they are stupid.

Ok Mark..Admit it...You want to look at what a real man's body should look like?
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

+1 on Elf and Stranger than fiction. Both great films. As for his other stuff, I can't watch it. Same stupid stuff over and over.
I felt that way about Adam Sandler for a while and then he slowly started to make decent movies again. Hopefully Will Ferrell can do the same.

When is the last time Sandler made a decent movie? I certainly can't recall one in the past decade or so.

Reign Over Me was quite good, although it flopped at the box office.

I'm not a fan of the "cartoon" character he plays in "Blades" and "Talledega", (and Semi Pro looks to be the same).
He really does his best work when he's playing a normal person, like Old School, or Stranger.
You could draw comparisons to Jim Carrey, who was pretty good in Bruce Almighty basically because he wasn't so over the top, and was just playing a normal guy.

He was "normal" in
Old School? That's the film that turned me off him for good.

Old School wasn't really a Will Ferrell movie, he was just one of the supporting characters in it. I thought he was absolutely hilarious in the flick, though.
