CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

Re: CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

I keep reading that the future of discs, whether regular DVDs or Blu-Ray, is limited. They keep saying that downloading will be the way it's done in the not-too-distant future.

In other words, instead of a DVD player connected to your TV, you'd have a small computer and modem connected to the Internet. You'd then download whatever you wanted to see.

I don't like that system, but I'm afraid it's inevitable.

However, the good thing about it is that under those circumstances, just about everything will be available, including all six seasons of "The Lucy Show," all at once!

Now, whether they'll be restored or not is another question. I'm watching "The Lucy Show" every night on RTN (the cut syndication prints, of course), and the picture is adequate, but I keep thinking how great they'd look if they were fully restored.

Re: CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

Here's the problem I have with the above, and I certainly hope I'm not the only one who feels this way:

Any online video files I have seen are low-res, good enough to watch but not good enough to collect. Viewing this stuff on line is "convenient," but for instance, on AOL's In2TV site (correct me if I'm wrong), you can't even save them on your computer to burn onto a DVD-R. I just don't get why someone would want to "purchase" a season of a show that way, rather than have the DVDs in their hand, and be able to watch them anywhere, any time.

Is there stuff that's "downloadable" whose quality is equal or comparable to a professional DVD release, and which can be burned to a disc and saved?

(I'm new to the whole video download thing...please enlighten me.)

That's what they said about the metric system.

If enough people resist, it'll never happen.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, Mark. At first, it was exciting to see AOL's In2TV site, but when I discovered you can't download the shows, I didn't understand the point. I don't get the concept of sitting in front of a computer screen to watch tv. First of all, it hurts your eyes. Second of all, it's not comfortable at all. And this whole download and burn concept is just a new idea because they don't know what else to try. I mean, even stuff that has been released on dvd isn't always superb quality. And years ago, before dvds, it was said that this concept was going to allow for the best quality and opportunities to see all of these shows. They aren't using the format to its utmost capability.

Just thought the readers at this forum might like to know that it looks like an official release of "The Lucy Show" is in the works, according to a poster over at SitcomsOnline. They were informed from an executive assistant that they have received numerous requests for the show and that it should be out within the next year. Can't wait to see it on store shelves!

I'm skeptical about that message. I want something more concrete. Like an official word from CBS/Paramount and even some advertisements from them saying that The Lucy Show is coming officially to DVD. I don't want to get my hopes up only to find out that message was miscommunication error or even a rumor.

I totally agree! I think the rumor is a great start in the right direction considering I have previously heard the complete opposite that CBS considered The Lucy Show DVD and then decided that it would be too expensive to release. Something official would definitely be better. Until then, I hope everyone keeps writing and calling them at:

I definitely want something more "official" before I get my hopes up. But boy it would be nice to have a release before the end of the year. That first season had a wonderful Christmas-themed episode I'd like to have a better copy of.

Re: CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

if CBS DVD is willing to put out Cannon & Jake and the Fatman, The Lucy Show is pretty much secure in getting a release.

What about the third season??? That one was just as good as the first two. I would just love to own the third season on DVD as well.

I would believe that they have received numerous requests for the show. Maybe there were enough to override Paramount's reluctance to release the show. I certainly hope this rumour is true.

Re: CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

I wrote today to ask them to bring Tales from the Darkside to DVD.

The shows that we know and remember wether its Darkside, Lucy Show, or even Mighty Mouse they're the ones that are long overdue.

If Cannon will see at least one DVD release (thankfully), The Lucy Show will see at least one season's worth of episodes released.

Which won't be a good test, since it's in B&W ... and they better not even THINK about only releasing a colorized version!

Re: CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

I think in this case the first season being in black in white is not really much of an issue. The first season is a superior effort and the most reminiscent of "I Love Lucy". The problem is that season by season this series becomes more & more music heavy which is probably a big concern for the studio. That's why it is super important to get those letters out and let them know that you intend to buy ALL 6 seasons!

Re: CBS contact info for "The Lucy Show" on DVD!

I was just thinking about the music clearance tonight.

"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" ran into trouble with "White Christmas". Well, Lucy sings it at the end of a third season episode, and it's used in the opening of the show the final three seasons! Lip readers can see she's singing "White Christmas".
