Universal indicating they're going to release on Blu-ray in the near future.

At least one of the two studios exclusive to HD DVD is already gearing up to join the other team.

"While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray," said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

"The path for widespread adoption of the next-generation platform has finally become clear. Universal will continue its aggressive efforts to broaden awareness for hi-def’s unparalleled offerings in interactivity and connectivity, at an increasingly affordable price. Sony is releasing over 100 titles to Blu-ray this year and another marketing campaign will take place with retailers like Best Buy to jumpstart the new era of HDM that has a single supported format.

Having knocked down HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc supporters now are positioning their advanced format as the one to beat standard DVD, cable and satellite for high quality video delivery.

New marketing efforts will immediately start cropping up at retail. HDTV/PlayStation 3 demonstration displays have been set up at about 1,000 Blockbuster stores in recent weeks. A variety of BD films will be screened at the displays, which are slated to roll out to all Blockbuster outlets in the next couple of months, studio executives said.

“We need to spend very little time congratulating ourselves on winning the format war. I think the worst thing the industry can do is rest on its laurels,” Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president David Bishop said. “Going forward, the messaging will be that Blu-ray is the best possible experience. It’s six times superior in picture quality to [standard] DVD. And it’s just the flat-out best high-def experience when compared to cable or satellite.”

BRD Updates on 06-02-08: The Lost Boys, XXX: State of the Union & others

Sony releasing the following titles on 08-12-08 and have added them to the Blu-ray Release Schedule. It would be nice if at least one film out of this bunch can be a good film.

As expected "The Lost Boys" is being released on BRD the same day as "Lost Boys: The Tribe". Also, added "Shine a Light" to the same release date.

Warner is finally releasing "LA Confidential" again as a SE. It will come out in SD DVD and Blu-ray on 09-23-08.

Also, on 08-26-08, Universal is releasing the following titles on Blu-ray:

On 08-12-08, Sony releasing "CJ7" on Blu-ray.

BRD Updates on 06-20-08: Beat the Devil and Last Time I Saw Paris on Blu-ray

Two classic films are coming to Blu-ray on 08-12-08. They are Beat the Devil and Last Time I Saw Paris. However, the releasing studio is Blu-ray Only so I have no idea what type of PQ these two releases will be on HDM. Buyer beware, I hope we're not running into the same problem we had with previous video formats with public domain releases which unfortunately, I think this is the case with these two releases.

Anyhow, I added them to the Blu-ray Release Schedule.
