6 million dollar Home Theater

Re: 6 million dollar Home Theater

The strange thing is it doesn't really look like it would cost that much, i'm sure the equipment is top shelf all the way but I would think that a theater built with even the highest quality gear wouldn't reach anywhere near 6 mil.

Is there 24k gold in the gear or something?

For that money I would have bulit myself a full blown auditorium with a genuine film projector and had George Lucas himself come in and handle the audio.

It looks like a set from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Where do you get the idea that all criticism must come from "jealousy and bitterness"? If someone is going to claim that something is "the greatest show on earth", it's contradictory for you to say it's only great for him.

From reading his web site, it's apparent to me that much of the cost comes from high end, high dollar accessories of dubious value at best. And no, that last sentence is not motivated by "jealousy and bitterness".

I honestly don't understand all the jealousy and bitterness around here as of late... It seems the latest trend is It's not mine so I'm gonna criticize it and the person to whom it belongs. It's not Blu-Ray so it has to suck or your HT is piss poor because you don't have a 1080p 108" front projection set-up and 8.1 lossless capability or your grammar is atrocious so you obviously don't know what you're talking about. I really don't get it.
You must be confusing HTF with some other place. That's certainly not the forum I enjoy.

It's not the forum I enjoy either Holadem, that's why I am commenting on it. I love this Forum dearly, but sometimes I don't understand why people need to be vile with their opinions. It's not entirely directed towards this thread, but threads across the HTF in the last couple months.

Yeah, Bruce, it does kinda look like the Millionaire set.

But since this is the thread you chose to make the comment in, your implication is that the criticism in it is "vile". You paint with too broad a brush.

I think it was relaxed sometime late 06 or early 07.

I think the main consensus in this thread is that it's a beautiful system, it's just a bit much is all.

Sorry, guys. You caught me in a bad mood earlier and I kinda lashed out. I apologize if I painted with too broad a brush. I do think that system would sound awesome though.

There is a secondary or alternate consensus?

My point is that there is no malicious intent here towards the man's system, that's all. Everyone's post has been on the constructive criticism side more than anything.

Re: 6 million dollar Home Theater

I think it's great that he is in a position afford such a setup but does it actually sound and look like $6 mil. The room didn't have any treatment that I could immediately discern. If it's as quiet as he says it is then there must be some treatment.

It appears that that the bulk of the cost must have been in those Mac power amps. Will all of those tubes getting hot I bet that room feels like a sauna. Surely he thought of cooling while spending that much money.

Personally if I was in a position (and I'm not, well not yet anyway) to spend a lot on a theater room I can't imagine dropping more than $600k.

Plus my wife would probably never let me get away with spending $600k on a theater room and another $60k for a high end audio system for the cave.

It's fun to dream.

Re: 6 million dollar Home Theater

I've been pretty flippent in a couple of my posts. Let me say that if this guy wants to spend 6mil on a home theater, then, that's his right and I don't argue that. It does seem like overkill, though. I could see the 100k home theater, but not the 6mil home theater. It's like a gold plated toilet seat, unnessary. I guess it all comes down to, is it worth it to him? It must be. Another thing I take issue with is when it's called the greatest show on earth. I take that as saying it's the best out there and I would disagree. Even without hearing it, the theater has no asthetic appeal to me and performance aside that's part of what makes a home theater great as well.
