I have a bunch of DAT tapes that were mostly live recordings at 48mhz. I'd like to get them off the dying format onto something else. One deck, a Tascam 20 mark II, appears to be dead so playback will be via a Sony D7 outputing through a coaxial cable.

My question is how to get it into something else. I'm thinking onto the PC. Since the stuff isn't really audiophile quality (mostly recorded with mikes) I could just use the analog output but it seems wasteful.

My soundcard is an M-Audio Revolution 7.1, which is fine for output but no digital imput. I once bought something called a DatPort, which converted from coax to USB, but it was for Win98 and have no idea what it will do if I plug it into XP-pro. I suspect I'm going to find out.

Anyway, if anyone has an idea of what to do, I'd appreciated it. The maker of th DatPort, opcode.com, appears to be gone.
