I know I mentioned it in this week's Roundup, but FYE currently has Buy 3, Get the 4th free on use BD's, all usually reasonably priced ($11-$14).  Rather current stuff, too, like 27 Dresses, Rambo, The Brave One, Pride and Glory, Forgetting Sarah Marshall...

I've made a killing there lately.

It is being reported that amazon.com has a code SNOWHITE (with just one "w") that will take $10 off the upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu-ray release (probably to "match" the $10 coupon that's floating around.  That drops the amazon price to $14.99.

Apparently there are also bundle deals if you buy Snow White and either (or both) of the recent Tinkerbell releases.  SW + TB: Lost Treasure = $8 off.

Info via SlickDeals.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I inadvertently posted this in the other SW thread, but why does Amazon have two listing for SW on Blu that seem the same but are $1 different ($24.99 and $25.99)?

I ordered from amazon, too.

And then I was forced to order something else from my cart in order to assure myself free S&H.  Darn it!

Since I don't do this too much, on a pre-order, does amazon tend to get the items to the buyer close to release date (even with the free super saver shipping, etc.)?

Hell no!

With Super Saver, you will be lucky to get it within a week of street date, if that. With paid shipping, maybe, but my experience is that you will be very lucky to get a given title on the street date, and will never see that with SS shipping.

It was perversely funny to read all the Beatles Mono set posts at Steve Hoffman's site from users that pre-ordered but did super saver. I swear some of folks were ready to lose it because their box sets did not arrive on 9/9/09.

My doing the same resulted in one of the most unusual film pairings I've seen so far. Snow White and Requiem for A Dream. Now THAT'S a double feature!

It depends upon where you live (i.e. how close you are to their shipping center). I almost always get my Amazon pre-orders 2 days after release, occasionally earlier. I always use free shipping. Today I received the Woodstock Diary DVD that was released on Tuesday. Since you don't live too far from where I do, I'd expect the shipping times would be the same for you.

My Amazon orders with free shipping always ship on release date, and I will receive them by the end of that week. I find this very acceptable for a free shipping service. I'm a patient person, and can easily wait a couple of days for my discs in order to save the shipping cost. It's not the end of the world if I cannot watch a new disc on its release day.

Here's something we haven't done in a while.

Amazon is running a Halloween sale on select titles.

Among them is The Nightmare Before Christmas for just $19.99.  Someone was just asking about this title in another thread...but I cannot remember the thread to let them know.  Maybe someone else might remember and could help out.

HERE'S a more complete list.  I guess the above list is a "best of."

Sorry about that Doug.  I cannot imagine why...unless they are somehow tied to my amazon account.  Let me try THIS ONE and you can just navigate through the sale by using the "blu-ray" links in the lft column or the "Editor's Picks-Blu-ray" in the center of the page.

Hope that one works.

Okay.  That one doesn't work either.

How about THIS ONE and then click on the "Halloween Sale" link on the page and follow my instructions above?

I don't know what to say...except "sorry."

This is really strange.

If you are interested in the sale (and that last link in post #944 isn't working), I guess you can "google" amazon dvd and on their splash page you'll see a Halloween Sale link.

FWIW, they have these particularly noteworthy BD deals at the Amazon Halloween sale:

* True Blood - ~$34

* Beetlejuice - ~$10.50

* Clockwork Orange - ~$10

* Descent - ~$10

* From Hell - ~$13

* 28 Days Later - ~$14

* Carrie - ~$12.50

* The Omen (both versions) - ~$14

Prices may change (as often happens in Amazon sales) though for whatever reasons.

_Man_

PS: Forgot to include Interview w/ the Vampire at ~$10.

FYI:
Amazon.com has: Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas [Blu-ray] with Jim Carrey for $18.99 with the list price of $29.98.

Walmart.com (and in-store) has Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Blu-ray) with Jim Carrey for $17.86 with the list price of $26.98.  (in-store).

Also,

Shouldn't the "list price" be the same everywhere and not $3.00 cheaper at Walmart?

$14.96:  Water Horse, Across the Universe, The Big Hit, Striking Distance, Untraceable, Starship Troopers, Hancock, xXx-State of the Union, Into the Blue, Dogma, 21, The Holiday, Talledega Nights, Superbad, A Knight's Tale.

Nice.  You get an action movie and your wife gets a little eye candy.

My wife and I often have a hard time picking out a film from my collection that we'll both want to watch.  (Well, she's a lot more picky than I am!)

We have that same problem too.  Our system is for the first person to pick out 5 or 6 films, the second person to narrow it down to two or three titles and then we duke it to narrow it down to the one we end up watching.

I usually ask her what she feels like and then pick out a small batch of maybe upto 10 choices (depending on her mood) for her to pick -- most, if not all, of the choices will be titles we haven't seen yet or haven't seen in a very long time since we tend to have a sizeable batch of such titles lying around.   And I'll often offer some additional input/comments about which might suit the moment best to help narrow things down.

Since I'm the one who usually chooses what to buy and am not usually that picky about which to watch, it makes sense to leave most of the final decision to her in what we watch on any given night.

Yeah.  I'm totally emasculated in this area, too!

Would you believe tonight I finally caved and we watched Brokeback Mountain?!?  It's true.  Horrible film.  Can't believe it garnered awards.    Although I must admit we watched Sunshine Cleaning last night (a film only I really wanted to see).

We really need to get this thread back on track!

No Brokeback here, but if we were to rent/own it, I'd probably be watching it alone (at least for much of it as she'd probably just fall asleep or something).

She still refuses to watch Before Sunset w/ me after falling asleep to Before Sunrise a couple years back -- and it's not even like either one is a long flick.   And to think she calls moi unromantic...

We really need to get this thread back on track!

Just noticed (from my shopping cart) at Amazon:

* Contact BD down to $17.49 -- SOLD!!!

* The Omen BD (original version) down to $10.99 -- Mostly likely SOLD!!! to go w/ Contact for free shipping (even though I actually won The Collection box set from an HTF drawing about a year(?) ago... )

How's that for getting back on track?

Oooh!  Wish I had seen that before (or soon after) ordering.  Would've added that to my order, but now, it's too late to make the change (since they already tagged one item as ready for shipping).  Guess I'll look out for something else to order w/ that in the near future... maybe they'll drop the price on something like the Hot Fuzz BD...

Hmmm...  Is Cutthroat Island any good?  Sounds like a fun enough title for the Walmart ~$10 price -- and there is no Walmart near me.  Maybe Amazon will get around to matching Walmart's price soon (and I'll throw in some camera gear knick-knack I've got stashed away in my cart to push it over the free shipping mark, if needed)...

Hey gang,

Just wanted to note that as of last night, that Snow White coupon was still working -- I couldn't resist the temptation to upgrade for under $10.  Also, the Glory BD is down to $12.99 -- usually it's $17.99 or $19.99 but once in a while they drop it for a day or two.  (I also got the new Porcupine Tree CD from the Gold Box.)

Also, Toys R Us has $10 off several Disney BDs.  I forget which ones, but I think Bolt was on the list.  None of the classic animation, though.
