They bring out (brought out?) HD DVDs and other Video formats.

Don't assume that all the good titles are gone at HV. I happened to be out yesterday and found one that still had The Brave One and Beowulf.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

My local VHQ/Movie Gallery is clearing out all HD DVD titles @ 2 for $25. Unfortunately, no Beowulf, although both discs I picked up (Ocean's 13 and No Reservations) looked like they'd never been played. May go back for Dreamgirls if I can find another title I want (single titles are $20).

Just clicked on the B & N link. Looks like that deal is dead in the water now.

Wal-Mart has knocked the price on HD-A3s down to $74.98, at least at our store. It looks like a chain-wide reduction, however.

As TonyD has reported over in Bargains and Deals...Best Buy has marked down ALL its HD-DVDs by 30%.

Re: Best Buy - 20 HD DVD @ $10.49 (online) 3/6/08 (now dead 3/7/08)

Cool!

Two of those titles were already in my "By It Later" list so I could watch the prices. And since my wife will generally watch any and all interpretations of "Pride and Prejudice", a 3rd title was easy to find.

So, free shipping, and I am still getting the 10% off deal.. about $26 shipped for 3 titles. Works for me.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Warner Bros is having a Buy 2, Get 1 free offer on Blu-Ray & HDDVD.

Here is the link. Use code WBRNHD at checkout. Also, this is strcitly a 2-1 deal. So don't load up the cart with 9 Blu-rays and expect to get 3 free. It won't happen. It's buy 2, get 1 free. So if you want multiple titles you will have to place separate orders.

Also free shipping on orders over $50

Weinstein Co. releases are being marked down to an MSRP of 12.95. I believe this is supposed to go into effect on 03/18/2008, but a number of places, including Best Buy, Deep Discount, and DVD Pacific, already have them sub-$10.

I might pick up a few of those, even if they never did release the stuff I really wanted, but the one time I've ever had an issue with playing an HD DVD was a rental copy of Pulse, and I've heard that other discs had similar issues (I haven't yet watched my copy of Clerks II). Did Weinstein ever get this stuff sorted out?

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

At WalMart, ask them to scan the players or look for one of the pole mounted scanners to do it yourself. My local WM had the player on the floor with a tag of the old retail under it. But when scanned came to 73.00 or something like that.

I'm not sure. What, specifically, was the issue? I just watched Lucky # Slevin, which was my first Weinstein Co. title on HD DVD, without issue tonight.

Incidentally, while I have been anxiously awaiting sub-$10 HD DVDs, it does tend to throw discernment to the wind.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Anyone have a list of the Weinstein discs that are marked way down?

My BB has the 30% off all HD-DVDs, but that appears to be 30% off full retail. Not much of a deal (yet!).

In case anyone cares, my local FYE has buy-2-get-1-50%-off on all used discs, including HD, but nearly all of the used BDs were $26 to begin with!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

DD has most of the now cheap Weinstein HD DVD titles for $9.11 each (free shipping):

DeepDiscount.com - HD-DVD

Derailed
Feast
Black Christmas
Harsh Times
Lucky Number Slevin
Matador
Pulse
Wolf Creek
Scary Movie 4

Also at the same $9.11 price:
School for Scroundrels
The Amatuers
Wolf Creek

DVDPacific has them for $7.80, but that site's security was compromised in the past, and previous customers won't go back to them even to save a few bucks, so YMMV.

(OT)

That´s not true. I´ve ordered hundreds of titles from them and use them all the time.

That security-thing happened literally 3-4 years ago or something..

So let the people decide without any propaganda. I use DVDpacific, Deepdiscount and with HD-titles now also Amazon.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Fair enough.. It´s just that at least I´ve used DVDpacific MANY times and so far they haven´t stole my identity or something.

edit: ..and they always mark the lower value to the package (unlike Deepdiscount and Amazon), so the custom risk is low when ordering in Europe (orders like 100$ have gotten through the customs many times).

Both Pacific and Deepdiscount are a bit "slow" occasionally, so they´ve something in common.

The picture started pixelating and freezing about five minutes in, sometimes crashing so hard that I had to unplug my HD-A1 to get it to eject the disc. I read that it might have been the TrueHD track, but using the DD+ track only staved things off by a minute or so.

It was pretty widely-reported at the time, but I never heard anything about it being resolved.

Seriously; around here, that's the price of seeing a movie in the theaters, which is occasionally shown in 2K digital projection anyway. Why the heck not, at those prices?
