Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
I e-mailed Amazon about lowering the Bond prices (I ordered the 3 catalog titles and Quantum so it was a significant difference) and after getting the "we discontinued our price drop policy" response, I e-mailed again because I've read of other people getting different results with different CSRs. The second time, they seemed to copy/paste every canned response they have regarding prices, including one (which I've bolded) that doesn't seem to fit in with their denying the lower prices:| Thanks for writing to us about the recent price change on items. I am sorry to say that recently we have changed our policy on price drop issues. We no more honor the price difference online and I sincerely apologize if you were not aware about the same. Upon researching your account I see that you have placed many orders recently and you are one of our most esteemed customers. Unfortunately, we cannot extend a refund to you for the difference between the original price and the lower price you saw posted on our website. I understand you bought this item from us just recently at a different price. Unfortunately, we cannot extend a refund to you for the difference between the original price and the lower price you saw posted on our website. You may have been able to take advantage of post-purchase discounts on orders you placed in the past, but that policy was discontinued on September 1, 2008. While we don't always beat the best available price on every product, we do offer deep discounts on many thousands of items. From time to time, prices on some items will change due to special offers from suppliers and manufacturers or our inventory and sales volumes. When we can offer a lower price for new purchases we will, but we cannot extend these discounts to completed orders. I know this may be disappointing; however, please understand that it represents our policy at this time. I hope you'll be able to take advantage of the many discounts we offer on your next visit to our store. We apologize for any frustration you've experienced. It is certainly not our intention for our customer to have anything but a pleasant experience at Amazon.com. Please be assured that we are here to make things easier for you. We will take each and every action to prevent you from bearing any loss. Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com. We look forward to your next visit. |

Very similar to the two e-mails I got as well. #2 was a lame cut/paste job from #1. That said, I failed to make the cut as an "esteemed customer", not like it helped you out! ;-)
The Amazon web site does say that you can call them or e-mail them, but judging by the names of the CSR's that sent the two e-mails I got, I suspect that the call is going to end up in some offshore call center, where we will end up hearing 1st hand how well someone can read from a script, as well as they can write.
The way I see it, there are two courses of action when faced with poor customer service. Fight it to the death, dealing with 1st line CSR's that know nothing, then going as far up the ladder as you can get, or just quit spending money with the merchant in question.
I know what I am doing.

You should do what you feel compelled to do.
However, I don't see how this should be considered "poor customer service". As far as I can tell, if someone even knew about the old 30-day price protection guarantee, they would highly likely also know that Amazon killed it some time ago. Besides, it's not like they won't allow you to return the title w/in a reasonable time frame if you did not already open it.
IMHO, the old 30-day price guarantee is probably, ultimately bad for business if they kept it indefinitely. Yeah, killing it will undoubtedly make a few customers unhappy, but their business does not hinge on just a few customers. And if keeping the policy will lead to significant cuts in their margins (and maybe even some real losses), then that will hurt their bottomline more. I think they should probably just adopt a more discretionary approach to offering some sort of price protection in the future (on a case-by-case basis), but not necessarily make it a clear-cut, well-known, automatic policy like the old one. That way they can occasionally keep some of the more demanding (and higher spending) customers happy while not giving away the farm to make *every* customer more happy than they expect to be.
Most of this stuff is about managing customer expectations really..._Man_

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Anyone in Canada (or, at least, in the Montreal region) who is looking for How The West Was Won for a decent price, Future Shop had it for 16.99$ this past week. The Best Buy next door had it for 32.99$, just for comparison's sake.Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes time, and it annoys the pig.
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Amazon just dropped the price of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2-disc) to $14.99
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Amazon also has Iron Man for $14.99Wall-E (2-disc) is $14.99
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
More $14.99 titles at Amazon:- Body of Lies
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
- Kung Fu Panda
- Bangkok Dangerous
- Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
- Punisher: War Zone
Heh. I just figured out that they're price-matching the equivalent single-item prices from Target's $29.99 BOGO sale this week, with the exceptions of Eagle Eye, Transformers, and Tropic Thunder. Maybe those prices will change soon as well?
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Amazon has a very limited B2G1 sale on Sony titles going on from now until April 13. Check out their selection hereMost titles are either $19.99 or $20.49 (for now), so the price per title after the deal can range from $13.33-13.66. Not a bad deal if you're interested in at least three of the titles on sale.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Amazon has The Kite Runner for $14.99I know the film has its supporters on the HTF (I think it's excellent as well), so I thought it was worth letting you guys know. $14.99 seems to be a popular price point these days.

Tower.com --right now, but it could changes any minute-- has The Kite Runner for $12.99 with free shipping.

I prefer Amazon for my Blu-shopping for several reasons, so most of the deals I'll post here will come from them. But this certainly isn't the "Amazon bargain thread," and $12.99 is a GREAT price. It's hard for me to gauge Tower's customer service reputation, though. There's a lot of anger directed at them over at Blu-ray.com.
But then again, plenty of folks don't care much for Amazon either.
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Amazon has launched a new B2G1 sale on 268 titles from every major studio except Universal and Disney. The sale ends April 24.As is custom, prices on most titles have increased between $3-6, though a few Warner titles appear to be unchanged and The Searchers has actually gone down to $11.99.

You may want to read amazon customer reviews before pulling the trigger.

The only review that counts for me is mine and I'm not going to wait and pass on a great preorder price for some reviews posted at Amazon from unknown people.

Exactly.
If for various reasons, pre-release reviews aren't very good, I can cancel my order. No big deal really. But at least I've locked in at a great price.

I've looked through them. A lot of people complain about the DE of ST:TMP not being included...even though we know why it wasn't in this box. Someone gives this set a one star review because it doesn't have the TNG films in it.
Whatever. I'm very very happy the original versions of the movies are being released on BD. But that is a discussion for the Trek on BD thread, not this one.
Thanks for the heads up Southpaw. The set is officially pre-ordered.
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
Locked in at $79.99.Also I'm waiting on 2 $25 gift cards from Amazon via an offer from my bank, which will bring it to $29.99 for 6 movies.

I couldn't agree more!
Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!
When the price went down to $93.99 a few days ago, I hesitated but decided to wait. Now, at $79.99 I ordered the set. I agree with Crawdaddy about those "reviews".
