Also just saw that Amazon dropped the price of Casino Royale (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) to $19.99 which matches Best Buy's ad this week.

Bourne Trilogy deal!

If you're like me and you've balked at the retail price of the Bourne Trilogy on Blu-ray... here's a deal.

If you have an FYE store near you (there are two here in the Nashville area), they are currently offering a coupon for 40% off of one used item. They've had stacks of hundreds of the little square photocopied coupons behind the counter for a couple of months now. I asked for a few and the gave me more than a dozen, which I've used the past month or so. They expire at the end of this month (but it may be extended)--it was at the end of February).

They curiously had 4 copies of the Bourne boxset with used stickers on them marked @ 71.99. After coupon that takes it to $43 + tax... much more in line for what I was willing to pay for 3 catalog titles.

I say curiously because they have had 0 used copies of this boxset before today. I suspect that some of their product stickered "used" is actually new, but they're trying to move inventory. (Looked at their stock price lately?) Some other "used" Blu-rays I picked up today still had their clear security sticker on sealing the top of the plastic case.

Anyway, $43 is a good price for Bourne. Check your local store for this and other deals on used titles w/ the 40% off coupons. Ask for them at the counter, as the employees don't seem motivated to hand them out...

That is one of my favorite sales, Steven...but my FYEs don't seem to be having that sale right now!

I do some of my best BD/DVD shopping during the FYE 40% off "used" items.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Amazon Buy More Save More Blu-Ray - Disney, ABC, and Miramax shows
Buy 3, Save $20 | Buy 6, Save $50 | Buy 10, Save $100
Hurry--this offer is only valid through April 4.

40 titles some multi disc sets (which I believe only count as 1 title)
pretty much a B2GO at 3 titles .... deal gets better if you can get to the 6 or 10 threshold

most BD owners will have most of the good titles already
this is good for those just getting into blu and starting up a collection or if you buy multiples of the top titles

^ Totally noticed, and pissed off! Every single BD I wanted went up $4-5 at least, which mostly killed any savings. Was going to order this morning rather than last night...now they'll get nothing. My emails from amazon have gone up about 5000% LOL in the last couple months, so sales can't be *that* great. I wonder why...

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I got my closest Best Buy (25 miles) to price match the Target ad. Walked in the store about 10 minutes before closing (not intentionally this time), picked up the 4 discs which their website confirmed were in stock before I went, over to Cust Service with the ad in hand, and they did the price correction without a hassle -- no calls to Target to see if the discs are in stock for once.

The Target a mile away from this store almost never has Blu, the 2 SuperTarget's that might actually have the Blu Rays' are another 20+ miles away so I was hoping they wouldn't be too nitpicky and try to call all the Target's to confirm their stock.

I think I'll do more PriceMatch shopping just before closing in the future.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

That may be because they're being sued right now for deceptive practices as it relates to their price match policy and their lacking ability to follow it. More than likely any price match request right now will be honored so as not to add to the evidence against them.

Just to follow up on the LOST Blu-ray deal from a few weeks back, Amazon has now dropped the price on Season Two from $48.99 to $34.99. The promo code LOSTBLUS is still valid for those who want to pick up multiple season sets.

Will Season One follow suit? Anything is possible with Amazon and their Blu-ray pricing these days!

That price didn't last long. I just checked the site and it's showing $48.99 for me. Technically, per their Pre-Order Price Guarantee (see below), they should lower the price for people (like me) who already pre-ordered it.
Quote:
Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you place your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.
(emphasis mine)
Because the $34.99 price apparently didn't last long, I wonder if they'll change it automatically. An e-mail may be in order.

Interesting, and please allow me a moment to vent/rant.

I pre-ordered QoS and Goldfinger at $25.99 and $23.99, plus they had a $7 off deal for Solace if you bough a 2nd Bond title at the same time. So far so good.

But seeing that the price of Goldfinger just dropped to $14.99, I emailed Amazon for a price adjustment. I got a nice email back saying that they would not honor the new price, and that they did away with their 30 day price guaranty as of September 1, 2008. Well, I sure missed the memo on that one.

I could probably accept that since my original order had a discount built in, no additional adjustment were possible, but their reasoning that the elimination of the 30 day price match is why is completely unacceptable to me.

I have been an Amazon customer for years (certainly more than 10, I would guess), spent untold thousands of dollars with them over that time, and for me their customer service has always been top shelf. I have gotten refunds for things like this that I never even had to ask for.

But given this change in policy, I think it is time to move on and buy my media elsewhere. I did send another note back letting them know that if this is their policy, then I won't likely be doing any more business with them.

On a positive note, both titles arrived today. I am looking forward to screening both.

If you press them about it again, they might give you the sale price. Happened to me, with a pre-order for 'Amadeus'. There was a link at the bottom of their initial response, asking if the correspondence solved the issue. I clicked the "No" link and restated my case. They responded again a few hours later, with the lowered price. It's worth a try.

The time-frame and price difference for my scenario is very similar to yours.

Alternatively, if you don't feel like doing that or they don't give you the sale price after you press them, you can do what I did: Buy them at Target and return them to Amazon for a refund.

Their elimination of the 30 day price match is a damn shame, and I wouldn't normally quibble over a dollar here and there; but one week after release and a drop as significant as this one leaves me no choice but to make Amazon eat a return.

At this point, it is the principle of the thing. Perhaps they'll come to some happy medium in the future (like a 14 day price match perhaps).

On a side note, is the BDA trying to get everyone not to purchase BDs on release week any more?

I don't think I would go through the hassle of that, although I concur that on principle, I probably should. I will usually make a good faith effort to get satisfaction, after that, my dollars will flow elsewhere.

And every Sunday, it seems to be the same song... BR's typically $10 or so more than DVD.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I'm doing some work tonight on NEXT WEEK's Weekly RoundUp and found some interesting prices on next week's Warner's new releases ($28.99 MSRP) @ amazon.com.

The following titles are all currently up for pre-order @ $13.99 apiece:

2010, Above the Law, John Q, Point of No Return, Taking Lives, Tango and Cash.

Each of those titles is currently listed at $24.99 at bestbuy.com.

======================

EDIT/Correction** Tango & Cash is listed @ $16.99 @ bestbuy.com

I feel ya, Brian. But that's also when compared to a single disc DVD. Most BDs are much closer in price to their new release 2-disc SE counterpart.

No joy.

All I got back was an edited version of their first reply, restating their elimination of the 30 day price match...blah, blah, blah.

No I am really getting pissed. I think Paul's approach of returning the titles and buying them elsewhere is the only recourse, or just throw in the towel, cancel my account, and move on. It really is a shame because I always felt that I could trust Amazon as a vendor. No more.

You would think that in this economy, any business wanting to remain around would bend over backwards to not screw over their customers.

Lesson learned, and I will make sure to tell anyone that will listen about it.

What's the old adage about a happy customer telling "X" number of friends about the experience and an unhappy customer telling 10x that many?

Brian

Edit: Humm. Returns are a no-brainer. I went through Amazon's own process, and they even allow me to print a postage paid label. When I selected the items to return, its requires a reason. One of the reasons is "Better Price Available". Take that, Amazon! That'll teach you to screw with me ;-)

I guess I don't understand what Amazon did wrong. The elimination of the 30-day price guarantee was widely discussed online and I believe Amazon emailed their customers about it. I know I've been aware of it for some time.

I'm curious why you ordered from Amazon, since, as a follower of this thread, I assume you knew about the Target price. I buy most of my DVDs from Amazon but was planning on buying Goldfinger at Target tomorrow until I discovered via this thread that Amazon was matching Target's price. I just ordered from Amazon.

I'll bet everyone on this thread has purchased a disc or two on release date only to see the price drop later (usually not this soon), but that doesn't qualify us for refunds.

If you cancel your Amazon account you cut yourself off from a merchant that is usually very competitive on their prices.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

I saw Goldfinger's reduced price on amazon's homepage and thought I was seeing things. I've been waiting for this kind of price for quite some time, so I jumped all over that one! I've been adding the classic Bond Blus to my collection in order of the films' original release date, partly because I don't have unlimited $ to spend on each wave, but mostly because I'm a nerd/geek/fanboy with a little OCD. I always do this with any given series of media, be it books, films, or music. In the case of Bond, I've only seen "Dr. No," "From Russia With Love," "Goldfinger," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "Moonraker," "For Your Eyes Only," "Octopussy," "The Living Daylights," and all the Brosnon Bonds. I'm really looking forward to experiencing the evolution of this film franchise in the best format possible.

Back on topic, love this thread so I've subscribed. Thanx one and all for the bargains.

I know I'm jumping on it today, partly because I'm still kicking myself for not taking advantage of the Lost Season Two price break I posted yesterday before it went back up to $48.99.

Also, Baraka is now $16.49.

Maybe that's just for returns of a non-defective item. I couple of times I've returned a BD because it didn't play or was floating around in the case. Both times they've overnighted the replacement and there was no charge to me for returning the bad disc.
